Lynn “A very comfortable stay in a very peaceful and stunning area of the Lake District.”
The owners are helpful and friendly. The cottage is extremely well equipped. We have booked for next year as there are so many walks I want to do and a visit to the Kirkstile Inn just down the road is always a highlight.

Janet “Exceptional holiday let that is tastefully decorated and well equipped.”
Outstanding location with on the doorstep access to great hiking and a great local pub. The views from the cottage were glorious and it was so peaceful. We slept every night with the bedroom window open and didn’t hear a peep. We will be back.

Sarah “The cottage is located in a stunning location, I can see why it is booked up so easily.”
The shower is amazing and the underfloor heating keeps you all warm after a cold day out. The cottage has everything we needed and is really well decorated, a cozy warm vibe. I was very excited by the oven as it's like the ones in the great British Bake off. We were really sad to leave, the snow and ice didn't stop us from exploring it just made the stay even more magical. We will definitely return as the cottage and Crummock water are now very special to us as we got engaged during our stay. Thank you for making our holiday memorable and amazing!!!

Lynne “We had a wonderful stay at Cedar Nook.”
We appreciated the little extras the owners had provided (decorated lit Christmas tree, mulled wine, prosecco, milk, tea, coffee, Christmas cake and pastries) The cottage was well equipped, very clean with high quality linens, fluffy towels, comfortable bed and lovely furniture. An added bonus was an outside tap with handbrushes for cleaning off walking boots and wellies on return from the scenic walks available from the door. Coat hooks and a boot tray were available in the utility room just off the hallway. The ten minute walk to the Kirkstile Inn for a meal and drinks was ideal but be sure to pre-book a table as it's a very popular establishment. The food there is delicious. The owners Sue and Ross are very friendly and happy to pass on local information. We had a lovely week and would highly recommend Cedar Nook

Justyne “Loved our stay in this amazing place which is set in a stunning location with incredible views.”
The property is immaculately kept and exceptionally clean, beautifully presented and appointed. The stunning kitchen has plenty of utensils with a good selection of teas, coffees, and the bottle of wine, milk, scones jam and butter were very welcome. Downstairs the bedroom is very comfortable with a good size bathroom and great shower as well as a useful utility room. Lots of wonderful walks, super local pub and wonderful friendly hosts. We will be back!

Chris “Wow - what a great spot !”
Despite us going in peak season, this part of the Lakes was lovely and quiet. We took some bikes, parked the car on arrival and didn't need to drive until we left 7 days later :-) The property had everything - excellent layout and design; fine, quiet location; a lovely, large lawned area with the iconic cedar tree; views; peaceful; wildlife; great swimming, walking, running and cycling (on and off road); lovely hosts; free to walk around their lakes and see their trees, plants, swans, ducks, moorhens, horses; nice touches with scones, milk and wine on arrival; all facilities were high quality, including induction hobs, oven, microwave, fine cookware, crockery and cutlery, S&P grinders, cafetiere, coffee pod machine, fridge, freezer, great showers and bath etc etc. An excellent pub was within a short walking distance. Hope to visit again !

Julie “Exactly as last year absolutely brilliant accommodation and location.”
Clean tidy everything you could need. Welcome pack much appreciated the scones were lovely. Great walks straight from the cottage. Used the car only twice to visit Cockermouth and Ennerdale Water. Kirkstile Inn didn’t disappoint either. We will certainly return, thank you Ross and Sue great hosts.
- Julie, March 2024 -
Catherine “Beautiful, warm and comfortable cottage in idyllic location - would like to rebook for another stay.”
It may seem picky but a better nights sleep would be aided if the dripping tap in the kitchen and the rattly air vent in the bathroom could be fixed. These are minor things and did not detract from our stay.
- Catherine, March 2024 -
Lauren “Amazing stay, loved every minute of it”
- Lauren, February 2024 -
John “Lovely cottage, nice quality furniture and appliances.”
Wine and scones a lovely surprise. Scenery outstanding, surrounding area adjacent to farm great and very peaceful. My wife loved the horses! A few suggested maintenance issues to sort, that the owner may not be aware of. The bathroom extractor fan is very noisy and runs for ages! Suggest a note by the bath to explain that you cannot have a hot bath with the hot tap on full. You need to reduce the flow otherwise the water is ‘luke warm’ The temperature in the bedroom was very hot when we arrived and difficult to modulate. Both upstairs and downstairs underfloor heating is on 24/7.This is waste of energy and adds unnecessary expense for the owner. Overall a brilliant place for a relaxing holiday.
- John, February 2024 -
Joanne “Lovely stay.”
Great location. The boiler was leaking and no hot water for two nights but the owners arranged a plumber and made a gesture of compensation at the end of our stay, which was appreciated. Good quality fixtures and fittings, really well equipped. Think there could be a little more attention to detail. Chipped plates, dripping kitchen tap, a tile piece loose around the base of the shower tray but the welcome of wine and scones, was a nice touch. Even had a knock on the door and the offer of some candles, during a power cut. I would highly recommend a stay. Thank you Sue and Ross.
- Joanne, January 2024 -
Jacobus “We really liked our staying in your wonderful, comfortable cottage.”
We will not soon forget the quiet and lovely view of the Lebanese Cedar tree! Such a sight for sore eyes! We hope to return in the future.
- Jacobus, December 2023 -

Helen “We had a fabulous week at Cedar Nook and whilst the listing is totally accurate, the whole holiday exceeded our expectations.”
The owners were very welcoming and friendly but also respected our privacy. The weather for us was pretty grim, but the cottage is spacious and very comfortable, with everything you could possibly need, so we would have been perfectly happy staying indoors if we'd wanted to. However, the location is equally magnificent, with plenty of walking from the door and stunning scenery, not to mention a few very good pubs in close proximity. We would highly recommend a stay here.
- Helen, July 2023 -
Steven “We have just enjoyed the most wonderful week at Cedar Nook.”
The accommodation is excellent in terms of its location and facilities. Sue and Ross are extremely friendly and helpful and it was lovely to receive homemade scones and a nice bottle of wine on arrival. Cedar Nook is a short 10 minute walk to the Kirkstile Inn that we would highly recommend. It is also located close to some excellent Lakeside walks on Crummock and Loweswater. We absolutely loved our stay so much that we have already booked for next year.

Right up there with the best properties we have ever stayed at. The hosts were exceptional and helpful. Oliver “What a perfect week in lovely Cedar Nook, Welcomed by lovely dogs and comforting wine and scones and a lovely underfloor heating system.”
I was then spoilt by the weather of continuous days of sun, cold and snow. Walked all local fells and only drove once to local shop to buy a nice roll and lovely steak pie .. Ate in the lovely Kirkstile Inn on a number of nights - just a 10min walk away. and a lovely large bath to relax and soak the aching limbs after the cold climbs each day.. Thank you

Such a bonus to have a pub within walking distance too. The property
The spectacular scenery of the north west Lake District is some of the most stunning and beautiful in the British Isles and sat right in the very heart of it the small hamlet of Loweswater is one of the prettiest in the Lakes.
Leave the hustle and bustle behind you as you wind along the country lanes and approach Cedar Nook. Created from the old hay barn at Godferhead, this once busy farm is now a haven of peace and tranquillity, horses and sheep graze in the surrounding fields, chickens wander through the old farm yard whilst buzzards circle high overhead. This wonderful Lakeland retreat offers beautiful and high quality accommodation through the seasons and whatever the weather. Accommodation In Detail The front door to Cedar Nook opens to reveal a beautiful cottage, steeped in history, oozing with quality and the owner’s attention to detail is clearly in evidence.
To ensure guests benefit from the best of the views, this wonderful barn conversion is presented with the living accommodation on the first floor and the bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor. A beautiful oak staircase takes guests to the open plan living accommodation.
The very first thing every visitor does is to throw open the picture window and look out from the Juliet balcony at the stunning scenery that surrounds the cottage which perfectly frames the ancient cedar tree from which the cottage takes its name.
If you can tear yourself away from the view, now is the opportunity to take in the rest of the room, with comfortable sofa arranged to benefit from the views and also to relax in from of your favourite film on TV beneath the oak beams that are another fantastic feature of this room. A circular dining table is just the place for a hearty breakfast before a day on the fells or for a romantic dinner for two.
The bespoke, handmade, kitchen is well equipped with four ring electric hob and oven, dishwasher and fridge (don’t worry there is a freezer as well –its downstairs in the boot room) and is complemented by a quality inventory. Back on the ground floor, the luxurious bedroom suite is a real treat at the end of the day, the pretty bedroom is presented with a sumptuous kingsize bed and the superb ensuite shower room with walk in shower, bath, basin and WC. On a summer’s evening what better place to sit than on the patio, with bistro garden furniture, as the sun sets behind the cedar tree! Private parking is available for one car. LocationLoweswater is nestled between the beautiful North Western Fells, offering relative peace compared with the “honeypot” areas of the Lake District, with Crummock Water, Buttermere and Loweswater lake within easy reach. Melbreak, Whiteside and the mighty Grasmoor offer exhilarating high level walks, or take gentle lakeside and woodland strolls, all from your door. The famous Kirkstile Inn is a 10 minute walk away, offering a fine, locally sourced menu and Real Ales.
The Wheatsheaf in Low Lorton is a 10 minute drive away – another characterful “local” with great food. The market town of Cockermouth is about 8 miles away with a good range of shops, bistros and restaurants and attractions such as Wordsworth’s House and the Jennings Brewery.
The Lakes Distillery offers tasting, tours and a shop selling local produce. The popular village of Buttermere has two great cafes (one offering delicious farm-made ice-cream) ideal as a lunch stop while exploring the surrounding waterfalls, mountain passes and high tops.
Continue along this road to Honister Slate Mine and the Via Ferrata experience! Whinlatter Forest Park is a mecca for mountain bikers and walkers alike.
Bike hire and refreshments are available.
