Often referred to as Great Langdale, to distinguish it from nearby Little Langdale, the area is a popular Lake District holiday destination and loved by hikers, climbers, fell runners and lovers of the outdoors in general. Lakelovers have hand-picked a range of superb cottages in the area.
Our properties are both charming and romantic, from 2 bed boltholes to larger cottages where you can spread out. All our cottages occupy prime locations throughout the Langdale valley and are within easy reach of walking for all abilities from gentle strolls to challenging hikes!
Langdale is best known for its mountains, from the Langdale Pikes – a group of mountains on the northern side of the village – to England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Not surprisingly it is also famous for it’s spectacular views, including Dungeon Ghyll Force Waterfall, Harrison Stickle and Pike of Stickle.
Places to visit from these Langdale Holiday Cottages
These Langdale holiday cottages provide the ideal base camp to explore the area. Great Langdale is a u-shaped valley formed by glaciers. It encompasses the two villages of Chapel Stile and Elterwater, as well as the hamlet of High Close.
By comparison, Little Langdale is what’s known as a hanging valley. There are two quarries in Langdale, including Elterwater Quarry, the larger of the two. The other is Spout Cragg Quarry; both produce local rock, greenstone.
Walkers will love this area due to the range of fantastic routes available. The Langdale Pikes include: Pike of Stickle, Loft Crag, Harrison Stickle and Pavey Ark. Also available to climb are Bowfell, Crinkle Crags and Pike O’Blisco fells.
Rock climbers will love Raven Crag, Gimmer Crag and White Ghyll. Prefer something a little more relaxing? The Langdale Spa offers a selection of leisure activities. This includes a swimming pool, steam room, solarium, sauna, gym and treatments.
