“We had a great stay in Holemire.”

It was a good location for the activities we wanted to do.The weather was kind to us which meant we were able to do all we had planned. So nice to have a window on to the bird feeders and to see the red squirrel.

About the location

LORTON

Braithwaite 4.3 miles; Cockermouth 6 miles; Keswick 7 miles.

Lorton is a village in the district of Allerdale, in Cumbria and is made up of two small villages – Low Lorton and High Lorton, both of which are nestled at the northern end of the Vale of Lorton. Surrounded by the mountains such as Grasmoor, Hopegill Head and Whiteside it is a perfect destination for exploring a number of hillwalks and visitors are encouraged to visit the 12th century St. Cuthbert’s church. Lorton itself is relatively untouched by tourism and yet is only approximately 4 miles away from Cockermouth, which offers access to the A66 road. Other nearby settlements include Loweswater and Brigham. The Whinlatter Pass road offers a scenic drive and connects Lorton with Braithwaite. Within an easy drive the nearby town of Cockermouth has plenty of places to eat and drink and is of course famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. A great location whatever you choose to do.
