    “Lovely cottage had a great time saw plenty of red squirrels.”

    Housekeeping needs some attention when we arrived there were spiders and cobwebs in most room corners and windows and flies bits of plastic wrapping and dirt from previous guests sitting rm the worst lampshade and bottom of little round table lots of cobwebs and all the skirting boards dusty I know it’s hard to keep on top of it all being a old cottage I manage old thatched holiday cottages. Toaster tray full of crumbs lots dirt under microwave beside dining rm cabinet by squirrel bin lots of ...

Maybe leave a few logs for guests to start one fire on arrival and information on where to buy extra for there stay . Some nice bath sheets instead of standard bath towels would make it feel a little more five star but these are just small negatives .

Located in the rolling countryside of the north east Lake District in a small hamlet called Hutton John, just a few minutes from the shores of Ullswater, Lacet Cottage, a traditional 19th century cottage, has been lovingly refurbished by the owner to offer exceptional and high quality accommodation, finished to a very high standard for those seeking a beautiful Lakeland retreat.Originally built as two cottages, they have been thoughtfully opened to create a spacious cottage with two sumptuous bedrooms, one with feature bath, a cosy lounge with log burning stove and a separate snug/reading room and the open plan kitchen dining room is a lovely place to relax over dinner with friends or family. The popular Lakeland market town of Keswick is just a ten minute drive from the cottage with a great array of cafes, bars and restaurants and of course the popular, award winning, twice weekly market and great local shops.

Five minutes' drive south and you can be strolling on the shores of Ullswater, enjoying a trip on one of the traditional steamers or enjoying the spectacle of the famous Aira Force Waterfall.

For those wanting to head to the high fells the challenging and awe-inspiring Blencathra, Helvellyn and Skiddaw are all within easy reach of Lacet Cottage. The owner of Lacet Cottage also offers two other quality properties located close by – Home Farm House (Sleep 6) and Highgate (Sleep 8) == Accommodation in detail Approached down a lovely country lane, Lacet Cottage oozes charm from the moment it catches your eye as you round the corner.

This delightful detached cottage is surrounded by its own garden.

A sweeping gravel drive offers parking for up to three cars and the path leads through the garden to the front door. A stone clad hallway greets you as you enter the cottage and this in turn leads to the lovely south facing lounge with comfy sofas, a welcoming log burning stove and smart TV.

The traditional cottage window overlooks the garden, the meadows and hills beyond.

To the rear of the lounge there is an inner hallway giving access to the small snug or reading room, the ideal spot to enjoy a good book or the morning papers. The open plan kitchen dining room has been carefully planned with the high quality kitchen set within the bay of the room, with beautiful views across the neighbouring fields.

The kitchen offers everything you could need throughout your stay for cooking up a hearty breakfast or a great dinner for family or friends that can all be served up at the family dining table.

A door leads from the dining room to the rear of the cottage giving access to the garden, patio and the Boot Room, ideal for outdoor gear. Heading up the traditional cottage staircase there are two luxurious bedrooms.

The first offers a welcoming king size bed and a feature roll top bath with a sneak and peek window offering views across the countryside.

The second bedroom, again with lovely views, offers a sumptuous super king size bed (that can be offered as a twin – please specify when booking).

To complement the bedrooms there is a high quality shower room with walk in shower, basin and WC. Back downstairs there is a further shower/wet room with walk in shower, basin and WC.

The accommodation is completed with a utility area with fridge/freezer, washing machine and drier and from here a door to the garden. To the front of the cottage there is a small garden but offering more privacy the rear garden extends to a small orchard and includes a patio with bistro garden furniture and tucked away, towards the back of the garden you can always take a book and relax and enjoy the view, as many have done before, from the “long drop”! Location Hutton is a hamlet within easy driving distance of Ullswater.

The closest pub is in Penruddock, a 5 minute drive away.

You’ll find a post office/small shop and pub in Greystoke which is 3 miles away.

There’s also a farm shop, a 5 minute drive away.

Whilst Penrith which has many of the major supermarkets is 6 miles away and Keswick 12 miles. Travelling from the central Lakes over the stunning Kirkstone Pass you will drop down into the beautiful glacial carved landscapes surrounding the Lake itself, with many quaint villages along its shore line.

The areas around the lake provide the perfect place for a restful and relaxed self-catering holiday, with plenty of opportunity for walking, exploring and getting out on the Lake.

At the southern end of the Lake you will find Glenridding, a popular little village and an excellent base to explore plentiful challenging peaks but especially Helvellyn and Striding Edge. Ullswater is thought by many to be the most beautiful of all the lakes in the northern Lake District, being a serpentine body of water snaking a nine mile course under the lea of magnificent fells, woodland and mountain.

Much of the lake, its shore and surrounding fells are accessible for visitors to explore, where you will find some of the finest walks and water activities, along with the amenities of the lakeside villages.

One of the best walks in the National Park is the trail that runs along the eastern shores of Ullswater.

Explored from the southern end of the lake, dominated by Place Fell, St Sunday Cragg, and Fairfield, you take the path from Glenridding over to the east side of the water.

You will be able to ramble all day with a magnificent view always in your sight.

For the return journey, board the steamboat from Howtown back to Glenridding. For those who like getting up high, there are some of the best mountains and fells on your doorstep, the most famous being Helvellyn and the precipitous Striding Edge. A gentler walk is Aira Force, probably the most famous of the Lake District waterfalls.

The main force falls some 70ft below a stone footbridge - so don't forget your camera. Getting on the water is easy.

You can take a boat cruise on one of the five beautiful steamers in the Ullswater Steamer fleet.

They run the boats from Glenridding, with piers also at Pooley Bridge and Howtown.

It's a great way to see the lake from a different perspective and well worth taking a camera.

Boat hire is readily available, both at Glenridding and Pooley Bridge, where you have a varied selection of craft on offer including kayaks, sailing boats and little motorboats, along with hire of fishing tackle and licenses. Further afield you have Keswick the main town of the north lakes, a bustling market town set between the peaks of Skiddaw and the gentle beauty of Derwentwater.

An all year round town there are good shops, a host of restaurants and cafes, along with museums, a theatre, cinema and leisure centre.

At the lake you can take a boat trip or hire one for yourself and explore the shoreline and little bays.

The market towns of Penrith and Alston lie to the North West on the edge of the Eden Valley and are well worth a visit. The A591 winds its way from Ambleside to Grasmere and Keswick, branching off to Coniston and such delights as the Langdale Valley and Hawkshead.
