“The property is lovely and suited our needs very well.”

We particularly liked the sunroom at the property, where we spent most of our time when indoors, but felt that the furniture could have been more comfortable. It was a pity that, with a dishwasher available, there were not more mugs supplied - only 3 large and 2 small for 4 people - and more teaspoons.

The property

Located in an area of peace and tranquility with an abundance of wildlife and birds, this affordable cottage with cottage garden and coal fire is ideally based to enjoy Ullswater and Keswick both within a short drive. The village of Penruddock is conveniently located just off the A66 Penrith to Keswick road.

Just 15 minutes north of Ullswater and Keswick is only a 20 minute drive, facilities in both villages include lake steamers, shops, pubs and restaurants.

The area has numerous walking and cycling opportunities through the country lanes to nearby villages throughout the Ullswater area and less frequented Eden Valley.

After a hard days adventuring the traditional village pub provides the ideal base in which to meet friends and quench your thirst, or venture slightly further to the village of Greystoke with village pub, outdoor swimming pool and castle walks. Low Garth Cottage is approached over a 200 yard lane and is a traditional, former farm workers cottage.

It provides ideal affordable family accommodation or is equally suitable to couples who will appreciate this quiet location.

The area has an abundance of wild life and birds which regularly visit the cottage style garden and can be admired from the conservatory.

Located in a rural setting, but only a five minute walk to the village and pub makes this an ideal choice to escape day to day living.

About the location

PENRUDDOCK

Keswick 11 miles; Penrith 6 miles.

The charming old village of Penruddock sits in a secluded position in the northern Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, and just four miles from Ullswater. The village is spread out amongst beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful scenery and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, traditional Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema and the beautiful lake. Penruddock provides easy access to the spectacular surrounding Cumbrian countryside which can be explored by both car and on foot, and with the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within easy motoring distance this great location has plenty to see and do for all the family.
