Sitting at the foot of the Whinlatter and Thornthwaite Forest and between the magnificent northern lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, is the village of Thornthwaite. Thornthwaite boasts a contemporary art gallery exhibiting many local artists and its teashop and the Church of Thornthwaite St.Mary with its origins dating back to 1240 The beautiful Comb Beck runs alongside the village into the nearby lake. Thornthwaite affords fantastic views towards Skiddaw and access to both leisurely strolls and challenging fell walks from the doorstep. The beautiful Newlands Valley is close by and is great to walk or cycle, especially if you like to stumble across pubs and tea shops and its ‘buggy friendly’!
