“We had a lovely stay.”

The location is fantastic we walked from the door most days. The local area is very beautiful, quiet and peaceful. Two good pubs in the village serving reasonably priced food. The cottage is very old and has loads of character. Some better quality antique furniture instead of the cheap modern furniture would really improve the aesthetic. The heating did not come on automatically and we had to turn it on and off when required which wasn't a problem. We were sad the wood burner was removed but ...

The cottage is very old and has loads of character. Some better quality antique furniture instead of the cheap modern furniture would really improve the aesthetic. The heating did not come on automatically and we had to turn it on and off when required which wasn't a problem. We were sad the wood burner was removed but the replacement was convenient to use and heated the room quickly. The bathroom could benefit from a deep clean and the extractor in the shower is clogged with dust and a fire hazard. The cottage is really cosy and retains the heat and we found the duvet to be too warm. Maybe offer the option of a thinner one? The cottage sleeps four but there is only seating for three. I would be surprised if anyone used the table and chairs as there is no room to put it out. Replace the armchair with another sofa and get rid of the table. The bed was super comfy and the shower is surprisingly good, the kitchen had everything you could possibly need and a decent vacuum to suck up all the dog hair. We loved our stay, Jacky Garth is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in and we were sad to leave and are planning to return next year.

“A lovely,well equipped little cottage.”

It has everything you could need. The garden is dog proof .We were a bit confused by the fire in the living room as the description tells you where you can buy logs but it is actually electric.Not a big thing for us. Thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay.

“Very nice warm and welcoming cottage.”

It has everything you need the space, the kitchen which is very modern has all the equipment you need including a dishwasher. The garden is enclosed which helps with your dogs as you can leave them to roam and know they are secure. It's close to all amenities and just a flat 5km walk to Keswick.

Beautiful cottage, great location reasonable size garden which would be lovely in the summer, we had a slight issue with the heating which was resolved quickly without any fuss, The village also lost power for about 6 hours, luckily the cottage owners had supplied plenty of torches and board games to keep us entertained, we really enjoyed our stay and hopefully we will be back in the summer

“We had an amazing stay with our dogs, the cottage is super cosy and has everything you need.”

The location is fantastic, there is a public footpath opposite which leads to 2 pubs, this takes approx 2 minutes. Both pubs are lovely, the Horse and Farrier is a lovely traditional pub, we had a great Sunday lunch there. Also opposite is the Sally in which we also loved and watched the football. They serve the most amazing home made pizzas, they also offer takeaway. My husband had steak another night which was also lovely. Vey dog friendly and welcoming, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The cottage is a great base to all the beautiful offerings of the lakes. Cannot recommend this cottage enough.

“The cottage was very clean.”

The kitchen well equipped and lovely little ornaments everywhere which gave a very homely atmosphere. I absolutely LOVED the bedroom and landing sky lights. The little garden would have been nice to use, but the weather didn’t allow for this unfortunately. Our dog wouldn’t have got through the bushes to the house next door, but I’m sure a smaller dog would. The second half of our week was very cold. The lounge and bathroom radiators worked beautifully to make us snug in the evenings. The cottage is very old and quaint and therefore all doorways are low, as are the ceilings and some light fittings downstairs. We are a tall family, my son in particular. He had to remember to bend down at every doorway and when coming down the stairs. Needless to say several times a day he forgot. The seating in the lounge wasn’t quite deep enough for our long legs. I feel sure the 5 foot bed only had a 4ft 6in quilt inside the king size quilt cover. I found the bed comfortable although my son found the single bed uncomfortable. My husband suggested that some sort of wedge to level off the main bed would have been better than the wood used to stop it sliding along the sloping floor. Daylight bulbs in the bathroom would help to disguise the fact there is no natural light source. We did have an issue with one of the bathroom taps. Fortunately this was sorted very quickly. I think the cottage owner was contacted, who asked a very nice local handyman to come to our rescue. Eating out in Threlkeld is a pleasure. Booking is necessary at the Horse and Farrier, but worth it, and the food also very good at the Salutation Inn. Both a 5 minute walk away. The railway walking trail was a great find. Taking you from the village straight to Keswick.

The only small problem we had was that although it says the courtyard is enclosed, it isn’t dog proof. Our small “houdinis” could get through the laurels to next door. It wasn’t that bad but just meant we couldn’t let them outside on their own - one of us would need to be there watching. It wouldn’t stop us from visiting again but may be something worth warning others about. Threlkeld is a lovely village central to everything. Two great local pubs. We would definitely recommend Jacky Garth Cottage

“Overall a lovely cottage in a great position.”

Very clean and cosy. Just a couple of niggles, the cutlery is very flimsy, the handles are coming detached and even spreading softened butter was a challenge too far for one knife! I appreciate that this is a period cottage so floors will not be level etc, but somehow finding a way to level up the double bed would make for a more comfortable sleep. And finally, the previous occupants had failed to keep the garden free of dog poop. I cleaned up what I found as I didn't want you thinking it was my dogs. Mine only had a late night pee in the garden which was washed away by all the rain! Overall a lovely holiday.

“Lovely dog friendly cottage set in an idyllic location for walks straight from the door and easy access to Keswick and northern lakes.”

Welcome pack and little extras in kitchen are a nice touch, enclosed garden for dog is a bonus and good Wi-Fi kept son happy. Being an old cottage there are some low beams/doorways and sloping floor in main bedroom. If you are tall you may need to duck in shower but no real issue and a better shower head would help. One small point raised with Skyes about rubbish collection was dealt with swiftly so was also impressed with their service. We would happily stay here again.

“The stay at the cottage was everything we expected from the booking to leaving.”

However the issues started on our return home. We have tried to contact your customer service department twice as we lead a small gift behind in the cottage. Twice we have pressed 5 for a ring back on telephone system both times leaving a name and short message say we had left something behind. On both occasions no one has rung back. So hence the low score for you We would like this gift returned but it not worth the journey to try and collect it but it’s the lack of response and the lack of personnel to answer your phone system that makes me wonder if we would use Skyes again!

Nice secluded garden with plenty of seating. Good access to local walks and amenities. Coffee shop a short walk away. Horse and Farrier pub good to stop off at for a drink and relax after a day out.

“Initial entrance is via the front door which leads into the porch area which does not have a light, Although this didn't affect us a torch would be handy when arriving in the dark.”

Also one one afternoon when we returned to the cottage we found both gates open due to the hedge being cut by a neighbour. If we hadn't noticed this it could have resulted in our dog escaping as we usually entered via the front door and let the dog out into the garden. We stayed in this cottage many years ago and therefore the sloping bedroom floor was no surprise to us. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday including the wonderful views..

“We had such a much needed very last minute getaway with our pets.”

We took our dog and cat with us which was great as we struggle to find properties that accept cats but the owners of Jacky Garth Cottage welcomed both. No sign of pets being in the property previously, the cottage was lovely and warm on arrival, clean and comfortable, described perfectly on Sykes website. This little cottage was ideal for us, right at the foot of Blencathra and plenty of other walks a stones throw away. Two good pubs around the corner, the cottage being right in the heart of a lovely little village, 5 min drive to Keswick or a lovely hours walk along the old rail track. We stayed a week, booked and arrived on the same day and we could have easily stayed another week. We loved it that much. We will absolutely return to Jacky Garth cottage in the future, kitchen fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, safe back garden for the dog and the wood burner made nights in snug. Lots of little windows for the cat to peek out. I say little as the door ways are small so watch your head if your tall like us lol, it does advise you of this on the Sykes website though. Adds to the character of the cottage. We can’t fault anything about our stay, the accommodation and location was exactly what we were looking for. Vicky was patient and helpful in finding us exactly what we wanted last minute. First time using Sykes and will definitely use again.

“There were clearly issues with the draining of the toilet and bath when we arrived.”

These then tuned into a problem which needed to be fixed urgently. This was easy to arrange and a plumber came and sorted out the problems that day. Apart from this, the property was very comfortable and in a great location for walking and access to Keswick. I would say that the heating was too hot (although it was unseasonably mild for the end of October) and we could not find out how to amend the settings to reduce the temperature. We may have just missed the instructions though!

“From the moment we arrived and walked in the door at Jacky Garth cottage we fell in love with this Quirky beautiful cottage,from the low beams on the stairs to the slopping floor in the bedroom.”

The history is all there to see and feel. The cottage was lovely, cosy and clean And had all we needed for our stay. The bed in the master bedroom was comfy and snug, We slept very well. We had our three pooches with us and they settled so well in the cottage. There are some lovely walks straight from the door for both humans and their canine family but equally not far to go in the car to enjoy more beautiful walks in the area. The hand held shower in the bathroom was perfect after long days out exploring the area and it had lots of lovely hot water. We don’t have bad word to say about the cottage. We loved our stay and the views and village location are perfect in our opinion. A lovely characterful property. The only suggestion I would make to the owners is perhaps a new toilet seat could be considered as the one that is there does slip around a little, but this is not a negative comment. Jacky Garth cottage is a welcoming,homely cosy cottage. We hope to return again next year Would you like us to publish your feedback? “Lovely cottage in a great location.”

We had everything we needed for an enjoyable and comfortable holiday. The dedicated car parking space outside the door was an essential facility for us. We particularly valued the views, the access to the fells with a variety of different walks without the need to drive, the Threlkeld Coffee Shop just around the corner and the village pub. Once we had got used to the low ceiling on the stairs our only minor niggles were the mounting for the shower head and the loose toilet seat.

“Really lovely cottage.”

It was so nice to have a place to come back to and wake up to being plenty warm enough after a chilly day out! One bit of feedback I would say is the radiator in the bottom of the stairs was quite noisy all week, not sure if it’s because it’s been turned off a while ? Everything though was so nice and clean, probably the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed in which was so nice. Everything in the kitchen was immaculate to use. Comfy bed. We would come back again to stay here

This lovely, semi-detached holiday home, Jacky Garth Cottage, is located in the picturesque village of Threlkeld near Keswick in Cumbria.

This house is among the oldest in Threlkeld and boasts original features peppered throughout the dwelling, making it ideal a charming retreat for a family's break in the Lake District.

When you arrive at the property, you will be met not only with a pleasant, white-washed exterior, but also by a convenient, off-road parking area, allowing for simple unloading of your belongings your home-away-from-home.

Inside, you'll discover a quaint living/dining area with exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace beholding an electric effect log burner, creating a delightful spot where you can rest after an eventful day in front of the TV.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre.
