“We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived the property was easy to find and well equipped, the enclosed small courtyard was a blessing for our Patterdale but the wire mesh on the gates needs to be raised to make it completely secure bearing in mind it borders a road, the tub style seats are not comfortable at all and despite being mentioned in the visitor book as far back as 2022 it has not been acted on, I took a wine glass out of the cupboard that clearly had not been cleaned in sometime, the toilet/ shower room is a tight fit but adequate for a short stay, there is no view other than that of a stone wall which is a shame in such a pretty place, the walk through the woods to the dog enclosure is pleasant, and I can imagine on a hot summer's day ideal.”

We have stayed in many self catering cottages over the years but this is the very first place we did not meet the owners or one of their staff ( we stayed 4 nights ) it seemed a bit automated, pick the key up from the key safe and return it there on leaving the property, the property is a short drive from most places of interest and its nice and peaceful once settling down on a evening. Lush green countryside, scattered with pretty tarns and embracing all the elegance of the lake and river shores. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly from Lakeside Pier, ferrying passengers the full length of the lake with stops at Bowness and Ambleside - two popular Lake District holiday destinations that you'll love to explore during your stay.

Each has a wide range of shops and attractions, so why not do your shopping trip by boat? Lakeside is home to two fantastic Lake District attractions; the freshwater Lakes Aquarium and one end of the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway - take a short trip on a traditional steam train.

Historic sites such as Scott Park Bobbin Mill, Sizergh Castle, Levens Hall and Holker Hall & Gardens are all within easy reach by car, with no need to navigate through busy tourist areas. To your north west, you'll approach the landscapes that famously inspired the children's author Beatrix Potter via peaceful country lanes.

Her former home can be visited at Hill Top, in the small village of Near Sawrey.

Only a mile or so further, and you'll reach the enchanting village of Hawkshead - a wonderful place to while away a day, exploring quaint cobbled streets and a blissfully car-free village centre.

About the location

LAKESIDE

Newby Bridge 1.2 miles; Bowness-on-Windermere 8.7 miles.

Set on the southern shores of Lake Windermere, the small, sleepy hamlet of Lakeside offers a peaceful getaway location, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the Lake District’s popular attractions, but still within easy reach of them. Whether you decide to discover the area in the car, by foot, bike, boat or steam, there’s plenty to see nearby to keep the whole family content. The ferry dock offers the chance to travel by boat to Waterhead or Bowness, or take a shorter trip to the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park, across the water, which offers pretty grounds set alongside the very tip of the lake, providing plenty of places for picnics, paddling, games and gentle strolls on sunny afternoons. Situated alongside the Lakeside Station is the long-standing Lakeside and Haverwaithe Railway, home to Britain’s oldest standard gauge steam engine, on which you can travel back in time along this well-loved Heritage line, and where little ones will delight in meeting Thomas and his friends. Visit the Lakes Aquarium to uncover the often-secretive world of life below water, where you’ll chance upon hundreds of captivating creatures that feature in the surrounding rivers, lakes and sea. There are wonderful, well-signed walks to be enjoyed in the immediate area, including the 5-mile route to Finsthwaite’s High Dam, which trails from Lakeside through pleasant woodlands and meadows. Lakeside offers an exclusive holiday location with all of the Lake District’s delights at your fingertips.
