The property

Gale Mews will provide up to five guests with a fine, welcoming base for their Lakeland vacation at any time of the year.

Gale Mews is a spacious and detached stone-built house, built around 1875, on an elevated position and conveniently located just close to the village centre.

There are broad views of the fells beyond the town rooftops, as well as a magnificent planted garden with a sizable enclosed terrace furnished with outdoor furniture where you may unwind on warm days.

For those early-evening sundowners, there is a large wooden arbour on a second paved patio area at the bottom of the garden. The more energetic members of your group will enjoy short walks outside the door, and the village centre has a large selection of neighbourhood stores, bars, and restaurants for all your daily needs.

Ambleside offers a five-screen movie theatre with the newest releases, a climbing wall, a recreation area featuring tennis, bowling, and crazy golf, as well as year-round lake cruises on Lake Windermere. Accommodations: The stunning, fully finished designer kitchen/breakfast room with views over the terrace and fells beyond can be reached via twin doors from the entrance hall, with boot storage and downstairs cloakroom with WC and basin.

A second media centre is a flat-screen TV with an integrated DVD player that is positioned on the wall.

From the breakfast room, a door leads into the roomy living area, which has a leather sofa, a woodburning-effect gas fireplace, and another bay window with views.

When needed, entertainment is provided through a wall-mounted, flat-screen, internet-connected TV with a DVD player connected via HDMI and the mini-hi-fi.

Through another entrance, a vestibule room provides direct access to the terrace. The master bedroom has a king-sized double bed, fitted closets/cupboards, and an en-suite shower room with a power shower, basin, wc, and heated towel rail; in addition, there is one twin and one single bedroom with its distinctive cabin style bed.

Stairs from the sitting room lead to the first floor landing and, from there, to three good bedrooms, all of which have fell views (higher than a standard single).

There is a bath, a separate, sizable shower cubicle, a sink, a toilet, and a heated towel rail in a huge family bathroom. All of the main windows in Gale Mews offer beautiful views and the building is bright and airy. Outside: Most lovely enclosed garden with south-west exposure, a sizable terrace, steps leading to the lawn, and a separate patio area.

There is a path leading from the main driveway that leads to the grass and lower garden.

Patio dining table with self-standing umbrella for all weather

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
