  • Philomena

“Irritating that remote control for main TV has disappeared so limited functionality.”

Less well equipped than on previous visits (shortage of cutlery, limited and mismatched glasses, fewer mugs and some with cracks, no kitchen scissors). Dishwasher is defective - top shelf cannot be used. No filter papers for coffee machine. Great place to stay but these issues need sorting

The property

'Windows' are certainly the theme of this superb central Ambleside apartment; spacious, contemporary, flooded with light and boasting fabulous views over the village to Lake Windermere and our majestic fells.

The stylish open plan living space is a dream for sociable gatherings; chocolate leather furnishings sit on stripped wooden floors, formal dining space enjoys open access to the designer kitchen, and all this is surrounded by an array of almost floor-to-ceiling windows.

The bedroom suites, complete with individual bathroom facilities, sit on separate floors, ensuring privacy for couples or peace and quiet for parents.

It has to be said that the loft-style king-size bedroom suite, with access to the roof terrace, makes 'Windows' a worthwhile indulgence for one couple alone! == Accommodation in detail Private parking for 1 car.

The roof terrace is the perfect place for al-fresco meals and lazy afternoons. Nestled on the northern shores of Lake Windermere at the heart of the Lakes, Ambleside is a charming historic village that has grown to become one of the most vibrant destinations in the region.

Part of Ambleside's appeal is its location; enjoying the tranquility and activity of Lake Windermere's shores (lake cruises depart just outside the village centre), but also the dramatic backdrop of our Lakeland Fells and mountains (Ambleside is renowned as a hub for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts).

It's easy to see why so many return year after year and why so many long to make their home here!

In the village centre, explore tempting cafes and a wide range of shops - everything from local craft to expert outdoor clothing.

Ambleside is home to two cinema venues and several acclaimed Lake District restaurants - along with the wonderful country pubs in the surrounding area you'll be spoilt for choice.

Special evenings out or romantic occasions, all are catered for within the village centre. Within walking distance of Ambleside village centre is Waterhead Pier; the departure point for Windermere Lake Cruises.

With regular departures throughout the day, you'll find the elegant 'steamers' or smaller launches a perfect way to explore without a car.

The boats travel the full length of the lake, with stops at Bowness and Lakeside.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
