“We love this cottage.”

Cleanliness is second to none, everything is spotless. TV went off rang Maria and she brought us another. Best cottage we have been in it`s nice and quiet and convenient for anywhere in the Lakes, god willing will be back next year. Unfortunately we had a poorly dog so had to leave on Thursday, thankyou Maria for all your help.

“This was a wonderful cottage return plenty of space for belongings and pretty much everything we needed.”

(Could have done with a long handled broom). It was lovely to have a welcome off flowers, milk and hot drinks and biscuits to get us started. Thank you. Our two girls enjoyed them indoor and outdoor games and Alexa to listen to their favourite songs and check the weather! Great place to get to Lake Windermere and Conniston Water but also south to Barrow and Walney Island. Lots to explore. We will definitely be back to the area but probably not this cottage- the only downside of this cottage for us was one toilet and shower for the 4 of us was a little tricky at times. But we knew this when booking. Everything else was great!

“Excellent cottage with every thing we needed.”

Spacious and clean and beautiful safe and secure garden for the dogs. Location is a bit out in the stcks. Walked into Grizebeck on the first day along a busy road with not much footpath, which was treacherous, and there isn't much there when you get there. The pub was closed and the service station looks very run down. However, once we got our bearings everything was OK. Visited Broughton a few times plus Ulverston and a Askam beach, which is fabulous for the dogs. All in all a great holiday.

“Beautifully appointed cottage in the South Lakes.”

Spotlessly clean and beds very comfortable. A lot of effort and expertise has been used when renovating this property to an exceptional standard. Location is ideal for accessing the Lakes and surrounding areas. We were lucky enough to enjoy sitting in the garden in the evening, using the cushions and couple of throws for the chairs. Highly recommend this cottage 5*

“Lovely and clean cottage.”

Garden was great for the dog. Apparently there is no longer a general store in Kirkby in Furness which was a disappointment. We would recommend as a base for exploring,but we would have liked to have been a bit further away from the main road.

“This holiday was for my 60th birthday and it was perfect in every way.”

I chose the property due to the location and the easy access to the beautiful Lake district. The setting was idyllic, in a quiet remote area surrounded by rolling hills, mountains in the distance and grazing sheep and newborn lambs. The cottage exceeded expectations; stylish, quaint and full of charm. The cottage was spacious with an attractive outdoor garden and furniture which we used quite a lot during our stay despite it being March and the weather being unpredictable. The lounge was small, but cosy and really we didn't spend much time in the lounge. The rest of the cottage kitchen/dining room were spacious and full of everything that we needed for a pleasant stay. The owners left fresh flowers, dog treats, tea and coffee and biscuits which was very much appreciated and welcoming. I have stayed with Sykes cottages a few times in the past and I can definitely say that this is my favourite cottage so far. Clean, comfortable and full of charm, we loved our stay at Brookside. it was perfect in every way. Many thanks to Sykes Cottages and to the owners. Paula

“What a beautiful cottage this is, immaculately kept and in a stunning location, everything you need for a great stay in the lakes, lovely secure garden for the dogs, a great beach just 10 minute drive away.”

“Lovely, warm and spacious property.”

All modern furnishings and very clean. Enclosed garden which was safe for the dog with views over the estuary. Nice and peaceful to sit in. This cottage is in a good location for exploring both the coastline and the the western lakes. There is a market town nearby with a few shops and pubs that serve good food. The cottage owners and local publicans were really friendly. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing week here.

“Wow … we spent a glorious week here 3rd July and I have to say this cottage wants for nothing .”

The owners have thought of everything and the beds are so comfortable ., the cottage was immaculately clean . Walking in to lovely flowers and milk for our first cuppa with a complimentary biscuit. The scenery was perfect , even the sheep popping there heads up to kitchen window was so cute . We had swallows nesting above the front door , which was an added bonus to watch . Our dogs loved the secure garden … we will definitely be booking again

“A delightful stay in a cosy dog friendly cottage that is well equipped.”

Nice to see beautiful flowers on the table on arrival as well as a dog bowl full of fresh water. We had a lovely week with visits to the Ravenglass narrow gauge railway, a walk to Stanley Ghyll Waterfall and a boat trip on Lake Coniston. We also had a lovely walks at Roanhead beach that the friendly neighbours told us about. Had some lovely meals in the beer garden at The Greyhound Inn in Grizebeck. The cottage is a great base for exploring the lakes with a nice enclosed garden (secure for dogs) which we sat in whilst watching the swallows building their nest. Thank you

The property was spotlessly clean, warm and cosy. The owner clearly considers who will be staying, we took our dog and the water bowl was left out filled with water ready for Lucy's arrival. “We had such a lovely week staying at Brookside.”

We were very lucky with beautiful sunshine throughout the week, the garden is a lovely little sun trap in the afternoon and evening. From the moment we opened the gate to Brookside we knew we had picked the perfect cottage. A lovely enclosed garden for our dog with nice seating area to enjoy the sunshine with a glass of wine. We were welcomed with flowers, milk, tea, coffee and biscuits. Our dog was welcomed with a fresh bowl of water (just what she needed after travelling) and lots of yummy treats. The cottage itself was such a lovely clean, spacious home for us all. We loved the kitchen! It was a great location for the tourist spots (not too far to drive). Some off the places we visited were Coniston Lakes, Lakeland Motor Museum, Ulverston, Lake Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere, Stanley Ghyll Waterfall. We all had a great holiday, would happily return and recommend to family and friends.

The cottage was so welcoming and it is clear to see that the owners want their guests to fully enjoy all aspects of it. The kitchen / dinner is thoughtfully laid out and very well appointed. The bedrooms are no different and the beds so comfortable. The cottage is in an ideal location for travelling round and exploring all of the Southern Lakes and coastline; the views all around are simply glorious and the local hostelry’s are very good. Not one bad thing to say and would highly recommend staying at the cottage.

We had a nice meal at the local pub in Grizebeck, and it's very dog friendly. The beach at Bardsea was good for dog walks and other dog friendly trips we had were to Furness Abbey, Ravenglass railway & the launch on Coniston lake. The house is lovely, very well appointed and the garden is a suntrap.

“From the moment we arrived we felt at home.”

The cottage is warm and welcoming and has been well thought about for the comfort of guests. We had a lovely stay very relaxing especially after long days walking and exploring the lake district. The cottage was very clean and tidy, we loved the cooking our meals in kitchen. Spending cold evenings with the log fire lit in the lounge and watching the stars from the bedroom. The location is perfect, even being close to a busy road it's tucked back and extremely quiet and tranquil. We would definitely recommend to anyone.

The property

Nestled on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park in the rural village of Grizebeck, rests this semi-detached cottage, Brookside.

Drive down the narrow lane to reach the white-washed cottage where you can leave your vehicle in the ample off-road parking spaces and admire the far-reaching views of Cumbria.

Stroll up the path, with lawned areas either side and furniture to bask in the sun on warm days.

Open the duck-egg door into the entrance hall, here you can kick-off your walking boots and house your jackets.

Discover the stylish kitchen/ diner, with a spacious layout and a spotlight ceiling; the designated chef can make use of the electric oven and halogen hob to rustle up mouth-watering dishes.

There is also a microwave, kettle, toaster, and dishwasher so you don't need to worry about making a mess!

Settle down at the circular dining table to enjoy meals together and why not uncork a bottle of wine and toast to your countryside hideaway?

Stepping through the property, locate the charming sitting room, with its crackling woodburning stove and Smart TV to enjoy as you unwind on the plush sofas.

Climb up the stairs from the sitting area to reach the first floor to find the family bathroom, where you can melt your stresses away in the P-shaped bath or opt for refreshing rinse in the overhead shower.

The first floor also hosts three beautifully appointed bedrooms; choose between a king-size, a double and a single bedroom, all providing storage space to house your belongings.

In the morning, why not enjoy a cup of tea on the outdoor furniture to soak in the unspoilt countryside views?

Take a scenic drive to the nearby attractions, ramble the Duddon Mosses National Nature Reserve, explore the woodlands of Langholme Mill Gardens and visit wonderful wildlife at South Lakes Safari Zoo.

Why not spend the day at the small town of Ulverston, where you can test your swing at the superb gold course, see your favourite characters at Laurel and Hardy Museum and browse gift shops along the bustling, cobbled streets.

Grizebeck is set on the border of the Lake District National Park with spectacular panoramic views of the Duddon Estuary, Furness Fells and the Coniston mountains. Grizebeck is set in pretty countryside and superb for those wanting to spend some time away from it all. In the village there is a pub serving local brews and evening meals , the local garage has a small shop ideal for essentials. A few minutes’ drive takes you to the village of Kirkby-in-Furness which is home to a general store and two pubs as well as a railway station. East of Kirkby-in-Furness takes you to the market town of Ulverston, which is well known for its street markets and festivals at different times of the year. A few minutes’ drive will also take you to Broughton-in-Furness which has three pubs, Beswicks Restaurant, a bakery, two cafés, deli, butchers, Post Office and Tourist Information. Coniston is a 20 minute drive and Windermere is 25 minutes' drive away if you want to take part in some Lakeland activities. Grizebeck is ideally placed for visiting a variety of the Lake District attractions including the South Lakes Animal Park near Dalton, Dalton Castle, Muncaster Castle and the Ravenglass Railway.
