“Definitely the best property we have stayed in (and others said the same in the Visitor Book).”

Perfect quiet location only a few miles from Kendal and handy for the Motorway. Our excellent hosts, Hugh and Amanda, gave us lots of local information. Perfect quiet location only a few miles from Kendal and handy for the Motorway. Our excellent hosts, Hugh and Amanda, gave us lots of local information. A fantastic welcome pack too with essentials and homemade goodies. Very much a cosy "home from home" for our pre- Christmas break. We were delighted to find there was so much to do in the area in mid December. We explored the Lake District and even ventured into the Yorkshire Dales. Lots of Christmas shopping, coffee shops, museums and even the pantomime in Lancaster and the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick. We can really recommend the property and a big thank you to Hugh and Amanda! We were their last guests this year and weI are sure they will have lots of satisfied customers in 2025! Best Wishes, Helen and Stephen from Edinburgh.

The property

The Hay Loft is an 18th century barn, converted sympathetically to preserve many original features, while creating a luxurious rural hideaway.

It nestles in a quiet valley in New Hutton, near the historic market town of Kendal in Cumbria, and is ideally situated for exploring both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

Boasting an open plan, well thought out interior, and furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and contemporary pieces, it provides a peaceful haven to return to after a day exploring the local area.

Unwind with a book on the comfortable sofa or relax on the secluded patio listening to the birdsong and soaking up the peace, In colder weather, light the wood burning stove and grab a board game or curl up and watch a film on the smart TV.

Rustling up a delicious meal is no problem in the well-equipped kitchen.

Alternatively if you want to eat out you are spoilt for choice – from great local pubs to Michelin starred restaurants.

The ground floor bedroom has a king-sized bed, ample built-in storage, and opens onto the patio area, The mezzanine has a double bed and looks over the living area, Both beds feature high quality mattresses, pillows, and duvets, with luxurious bed linen.

If you can tear yourself away, head to Kendal just 7 minutes by car, with its bustling centre packed with independent shops, cafes and restaurants.

There are also a number of supermarkets on the outskirts.

The Brewery Arts Centre is a hub for high quality cinema, theatre, and music; along with the newly refurbished Abbott Hall Gallery housing an award-winning art collection.

In the opposite direction visit Sedbergh, England’s official book town.

There’s plenty of walking in the area, with several walks starting from the door, and the Howgills and local limestone pavements close at hand The more challenging fells are just 25 minutes away by car.

It’s also a great area for cycling (if you like hills) and locked bike storage is available in the owner’s garage.

Windermere and Ullswater with their famous steamers deserve a visit, As do the attractions of Beatrix Potter and James Herriot.

So, escape to The Hay Loft – a wonderful Lakeland retreat, in a fabulous location, whatever the time of year.

KENDAL

Windermere 8 miles.

A historic market town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes.
