    “Excellent stay here, we had a great time for a family birthday celebration with children and adults.”

    Only couple of things that might need attention….. a cap seems to be missing off the green (I think emergency light sensor ) and it made the downstairs bedroom with corner window so bright on a night with green light and the towel radiator in the annex would not work - we all tried and just never seemed to come on . very minor things ! Overall the place was fantastic and had everything you needed , very well equipped. We had a brilliant time thank you

Unfortunately, the green light is due to the fire alarm and emergency light system which we installed to ensure the property meets high fire safety standards for our guests. I will investigate to see if there is an missing part issue to moderate the intensity. Tucked away on the outskirts of the peaceful hamlet of Brackenber, a stone's throw from the historic town of Appleby-In-Westmorland, rests this charming stone-built detached cottage and external annexe pairing, Brackenber House.

Overlooking the well-kept grounds of the Appleby Golf Club and boasting a luxurious interior, Brackenber House makes the idyllic base for a group celebration to the sought-after county of Cumbria.

For an intimate escape, the external annexe set across the way from the main house provides additional sleeping quarters for two guests, with a Twin/King bedroom and a handy en-suite shower room, ideal for couples!

In the morning, kick-start your day with an indulgent soak amongst the bubbles in either of the two family bathrooms, both stylishly tiled throughout, or make use of the overhead showers for an invigorating rinse before setting off on an adventure.

Being set in the countryside, clear nights will give you some of the best star gazing available.

During spring, summer and autumn expect to see Red Squirrel and Pheasants along with moorland and garden birds.

You may also see hares, owls and red kites.

Walk down to the nearby lake to spot geese and ducks.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct.
