William Edward “When we booked Moore Cottage we observed pictures of it looking isolated as per the previous properties we have booked with Sykes.”
Actually Brockwood Hall where it is situated is a complex with lodges. Therefore, it was much noisier and more frenetic than we are used to. The property itself is a beautiful character dwelling with fabulous period features. However, the underfloor heating didn't work properly and other lodges seemed to be able to control our TV signal! We did report our issues via WhatsApp initially, which is what the brochure suggested and then, during a named storm to the restaurant on site as it was tough to find the out of hours service protocol. The maintenance operative came up from Millom and helped but it took a while for the site manager to deal with us or indeed leave a note. I would imagine that this Cottage will become cold as the autumn and winter progress. This is as, even though there are fires in the bedrooms and lounge the warmest room seems to be the downstairs w c. Apparently it has been a year and a half that the underfloor heating has not worked? Would an owner really leave it that long? I was surprised and even more perturbed that the WhatsApp contact directed us to First Group South Africa initially! All in all a lovely cottage but not really tranquil as lots of noise from other lodge guests and why there couldn't have been a property book regarding maintenance issues I am not sure as it is a decent interval since Covid. There was a hot tub at site but we didn't use it as the property was overlooked and it was cold and we didn't know how to use it. Decor lovely but some basics need attention as per above comments.
Hi William, You did indeed go to South Africa via WhatsApp as we are a Sister company to resorts in SA. I did try numerous occasions to talk to you but you was always out and about, which is of course what you do when you are on holiday. The hot tub is in a private courtyard, if you had spoken to reception regarding the cold hot tub we would of sorted out the issue asap. After speaking to you you said that everything was alright and that you wasn't used to a smart tv and that is what you was finding difficult. The underfloor heating is not in all areas of the downstairs and that is why we also have an electric fire and new heating on the walls. Since covid we no longer use paper information booklets but we do have QR codes in all lodges and if you scan this it gives you a wealth of information about Brockwood Hall and how to use the fire and all your electrical equipment, places to visit and so much more.
