“Easy to find the property.”

Upon entering property it looked like it needed a bit of TLC downstairs. We discovered the second bedroom had no bed linen and I tried calling both numbers listed but no one answered. Owner came to property following morning and apologised and made duvet up . The duvets are disgusting and I didn't use them because they were that bad . I had brought my own and we went to shops and got another. Discovered further duvets discarded in cupboard under stairs. Upstairs was okay, we had everything we needed. Wondered why so many flies around the seating area though, the carpet needs cleaned and this will help . I enjoyed my holiday but not accomodation. Even though I got this holiday at reduced rate of £500 , I think I could've found a better property to rent if I had looked harder.

“If you want peace and quiet for a location, this is for you.”

If you want good Wi-Fi connection speeds and need to make regular phone calls - you may struggle here. Wi-Fi is shared with neighbouring properties and there is not a router in the property. I also worried that we were loud at times and the neighbouring properties could hear us (we could hear them due to the adjoining door to access next door). My son is 6”3 and was too long to fit in the bunk beds which he was also worried about climbing into as they were not very stable (ideal for smaller children). We had to put mattress on floor and my son slept on that - luckily he does not complain much otherwise we could have had a sleeping arrangement problem. There is a camp/caravan site also in the grounds and my dog loved meeting new 4 legged friends on their field. The owners were nice, friendly and helpful. They offered to do our washing - we stayed for a week (first one free, next one £2.50 which is reasonable on cost but you need to comfortable with them handling your smalls

“We had a great stay at the Old Byre.”

The cottage is perfect for 4, very cosy, the only negative point being that the fridge is really small for a family with 2 teenagers... One of the mattresses of the king size bed was a bit too soft. Mr and Mrs Boustead were very friendly and helpful The countryside is wonderful, plenty of opportunities to walk, either in the Yorkshire Dales or in the Lake District (1 hour drive). We'd love to come back!!

We stayed with our two kids at this property last weekend and the place was brilliant! It was extremely clean and tidy and just right for a family with kids. The farm was really nice too with beautiful nature for morning/evening walks. Peace and quite, yet not far from other local villages/towns.

“Our second stay here, but it wont be our last!”

This is a excellent cottage in a lovely location with friendly and helpful owners. The living room is on the first floor and has views in three directions, with a small terrace that catches the late afternoon and evening sun - just perfect! There's also scope to catch the morning sun on the other side of the cottage. There's lots to see and do locally, especially if you're a walker or runner with several good routes from the cottage itself. The coast to coast long distance walk is less than a mile from the cottage. The hot spots of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks are easily accessible by car, but smaller places including Sedbergh (England's book town) and Kirkby Stephen are well worth exploring and there's good walks in those areas too. Try and find time to visit Orton with its handmade chocolate shop, cafe and farmers market.

“A great cottage to stay - the best we have used for several years.”

The double bed was very comfortable and we both slept excellently every night. The first floor is an open plan kitchen / dining and living room which is very spacious. However the 'icing on the cake' is the first floor veranda which catches the sun from mid afternoon onwards and is a great place to chill and have evening meals. There's also an area you can sit and catch the morning sun. Ample off road car parking The owners are very friendly and helpful. There's a range of walking and running routes directly from the cottage

“We had a short break over Christmas, so expect whatever the weather happens to bring you?”

The Cottage is a beautiful up-side-down layout on a working farm and Mike and Dianne are the perfect hosts. For a tranquil relaxing stay to recharge the batteries this is the place. Not far from the Lake District and all within a short journey from here. We went to Ambleside, Keswick and Kendal in the Lakes and visited a friend near Bradford whilst we stayed here and none of it felt too far. We plan to revisit in the drier weather to explore the Yorkshire Moors more in the future. Ta muchly.

Plenty of hot water. Comfortable beds. Enough equipment, although we went out for meals. Father was working, there for you if needed. Shops , restaurants etc were about ten minutes in the car. Well positioned for both the Lakes and North Yorkshire, very quiet and peaceful. Would book again,

“We want to go above and beyond to recommend these people so highly.”

They made us feel at home - showed the children round the animals, allowed them to feed baby sheep etc which they loved. The cottage was in a lovely location and so nice, clean etc with everything you could need for your stay. I also had a problem with my car on the last day and the owner (Diane) went out of her own way completely to help me - a genuine life saver to say the least! All in, we cannot recommend these people highly enough and have already been in touch about returning in the summer - one of the best holidays away in this country we have had!

“The cottage is in a simply stunning location on a working farm with easy access to both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.”

The cottage was scrupulously clean and the owner popped round about 20 minutes after I arrived to see if I needed anything. My 20 month old son was entertained for hours by the farm animals and had a lovely time being shown around the farm by the farmer.

These delightful Grade II listed Newbiggin-on-Lune cottages have been carefully created from old farm buildings, and each has been comfortably furnished and decorated, retaining character and charm, including original features, oak beams and exposed stonework. The tranquil village of Newbiggin-on-Lune lies at the foot of the Howgill Fells, quietly sitting between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. It is a delightful rural village with a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings. Hill farming is the principal means of income in the area and an agricultural show is still held once a year on the fells, echoing the markets and shows of days gone by. The local river, the Lune for which the village was named, is very popular for trout fishing.
