“Ten out of Ten from us !”

A gorgeous one bedroom cottage in a fabulous location for getting away from it all and for walking the high fells most of which can be reached from the doorstep. Fairly remote location where the HardKnott pass and Wrynose Pass meet so take all that you need with you as you cannot just nip out to the shops. Only used the car once during the week to go to the Newfield Inn at Seathwaite about 5 miles away. Cottage is very well equipped, comfortable and cosy, good logburner and Sandra (the owner) ...

Fairly remote location where the HardKnott pass and Wrynose Pass meet so take all that you need with you as you cannot just nip out to the shops. Only used the car once during the week to go to the Newfield Inn at Seathwaite about 5 miles away. Cottage is very well equipped, comfortable and cosy, good logburner and Sandra (the owner) who lives next door at the farmhouse was absolutely fantastic during our stay. So helpful and genuine. We saw her several times during the week and each timeshe was so cheery and hospitable. Dark sky location and no light pollution. A beautiful place. We will definitely be coming back here.

The property

Broughton-in-Furness 12 miles.

A cosy semi-detached cottage, attached to the owners’ farmhouse, in an isolated setting on a working livestock farm in Cockley Beck in the stunning Duddon Valley.

This perfect romantic cottage is situated in a truly away-from-it-all location, where nature really does meet you at the door; the Hardknott Pass is just outside the cottage, as is the River Duddon as it tumbles its way down the valley towards Seathwaite, in the beautiful Lake District National Park.

Inside this cosy cottage is an open plan living area with a woodburning stove and superb views out to the surrounding fields and fells, together with a well-equipped kitchen, a bathroom and a double bedroom.

Outside there is an enclosed garden and patio, surrounded in every direction by beautiful scenery.

This really is a cottage where the air is pure and refreshing, the scenery breathtaking and the welcome warm.

Being in the shadows of Harter Fell, Crinkle Craggs and the Scafell massif, this wonderful location is perfect for the serious walker and mountaineer.

The tiny hamlet of Seathwaite is 4 miles down the valley where there is a lovely country inn serving delicious food, and the Hardknott Pass leads you over into Eskdale and Wasdale.

Whenever you visit this special location you will be amazed at the abundance of wildlife and the starry night skies, so pack everything you need for your stay, as once you arrive at this beautifully rural, remote cottage you will not wish to leave!

About the location

BROUGHTON-IN-FURNESS

Millom 7.5 miles; Coniston 9 miles; Ulverston 9.5 miles.

Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells. Norman Nicholson, one of Britain's finest 20th century poets and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry. The village was home to Branwell Bronte, brother of the Bronte sisters, for a short time. The Furness railway line runs from nearby Foxfield and makes for an ideal day out, travelling the west coast of Cumbria. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District and close to the sea, this attractive town makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely, heather-clad moors.
