The property

Just a short walk from the centre of the popular Lakeland village of Hawkshead, Curlew Cottage is a charming, detached, cottage style bungalow.

Built around 1930 on a private cul-de-sac, this cottage is popular whatever the time of year. With a homely and welcoming sitting room, a kitchen/diner with family dining table, two bedrooms including one with en-suite shower room, a family bathroom with original feature bath, Curlew Cottage has a lovely garden to both the front and rear and offers terrific views across the valley to the surrounding countryside. With so much to do on the doorstep many guests simply park their car for the week.

An abundance of walks abounds from the village to Claife Heights, Latterbarrow, Tarn Hows and Esthwaite.

Mountain bikers will head directly to nearby Grizedale Forest and those looking for activities on the water are in easy reach of both Lake Windermere and Coniston Water.

The village of Hawkshead is one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District and famously associated with William Wordsworth who attended school in the village and Beatrix Potter where today the National Trust exhibit her original artwork in the old offices of Beatrix's husband William Heelis.

Around the market square there is a delightful array of shops and cafes and with four pubs in the village there is a great choice of places to eat and drink. == Accommodation in detail The front door to Curlew Cottage opens to a hallway that links all the rooms of this ground floor property.

To the front of the cottage the sitting room is warm and welcoming with a cosy log burning stove, comfy sofas and TV.

To the rear of the cottage there is a well-appointed kitchen /diner with fitted units, gas hob and electric oven, fridge/freezer and dishwasher.

The family dining table is a great place to gather, over breakfast in the morning, to plan the day's activities or to relax and socialise in an evening.

A washing machine and tumble drier can be found in the separate utility area off the kitchen. Choose from two bedrooms, the first a smart double with ensuite shower room and the second has twin 3' beds.

The bedrooms are complemented by a family bathroom which includes the cottage's original roll top bath, a shower cubicle, basin and WC. Returning outside, the beautiful cottage garden is well planted with mature shrubs, pretty borders and includes a lawned area and outside seating making it the ideal spot to relax on a summer's afternoon and to enjoy the views across the valley and surrounding countryside. In the drive to the side of the cottage there is parking for two cars and the owners welcome one dog at the property. Location Curlew Cottage is a short stroll from the centre of Hawkshead in the heart of the Lake District Hawkshead is an adorable village of cobbled streets and traditional Grade II listed Lakeland cottages.

You will find a range of local shops here, including the Honeypot Delicatessen and the Hawkshead Relish Company which both offer a treasure-trove of Lakeland luxuries.

Spend a lazy morning in one of Hawkshead's charming tea rooms or cafes.

There are several TripAdvisor-rated traditional pubs in Hawkshead, and we recommend the short drive to the acclaimed Drunken Duck Inn and Restaurant at Outgate.

A larger selection of shops can be found in Ambleside, a few miles away and the larger on-line supermarkets will deliver your groceries to the cottage. Hawkshead is the perfect base for walkers, with routes, right from the doorstep, to suit all levels.

Take the stunning walk to Tarn Hows, stroll on the shores of Esthwaite Water, which also has an excellent trout fishery or explore Grizedale Forest; a picturesque network of pathways, cycle tracks and sculpture trails.

Why not take on Grizedale's Go-Ape, Latterbarrow, or Claife Heights, conquer the nearby Langdale Pikes or enjoy the water sports that nearby Coniston or Windermere have to offer. The surrounding landscape inspired the children's author Beatrix Potter.

Her former home at Hill Top, Near Sawrey is now run by the National Trust and is open to the public.

A truly magical experience for all!

Directly behind Hill Top is Tower Bank Arms, a traditional pub with stone-flagged floors, Lakeland ales and a roaring fire. Bowness can be easily reached via the car-ferry across Lake Windermere, only a few miles from your door.

Bowness is a bustling Lakeland town, with contemporary shops and a wide range of entertainment.

Hire a boat in Bowness Bay, or take a steamer cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside or Lakeside.

Windermere Golf Club is just beyond Bowness village.
