“Firstly the hosts, Sue and Gary were completely charming, so accommodating and helpful, took the time out - even when we were delayed on arrival with BH traffic to show us around the cottage, so lovely.”

The cottage itself is immaculate, the kitchen one of the best equipped we’ve had in a holiday rental and we’ve been cottaging in the lakes for years. The location is brilliant for hikers and families with Kendal, Windermere and even a day trip to morcombe all under an hour. Finally - if you are taking your doggy family member as we did, the stream is perfect for them - for a little play or washing of any muddy paws before reentering the cottage, the children happened to love birdy ...

All around a perfect 4 day stay and we will definitely be back!

About the location

CROSTHWAITE

Bowness-on-Windermere 5 miles; Kendal 6 miles.

Crosthwaite is a small village set in the picturesque Lyth Valley, famous for its damson trees, and boasts a lovely pub known nationally for its excellent food. The lakeside towns of Windermere and Bowness are nearby, with plenty of activities, interest and entertainment for all ages. Also within easy reach is the popular market town of Kendal, an historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping. Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden, are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay.
