Welcome to Beatrix Potter country and stay in the former village shop which has been beautifully converted into an elegant studio for two.

If searching for peace and quiet you have found it.

It nestles in the picturesque hamlet of Far Sawrey.

Perfectly situated in the heart of the English Lake District, in the quiet, picturesque village of Far Sawrey, Old Sawrey Stores is an ideal base for walking, mountain biking, fishing, wildlife.

Two pubs are within easy walking distance. Fall in love with rural life in one of the Lake District's prettiest settings, with easy access to amenities, attractions, entertainment and lake cruises by taking the car ferry across Lake Windermere to Bowness. Accommodation Enter into the open plan living space with its abundance of natural light from above and the huge picture windows.

This gives Old Sawrey Stores a light, airy, contemporary studio ambience. The main living space features a well-equipped, modern, fitted dining-kitchen combined with a versatile lounge area with comfortable soft leather armchairs and Smart TV.

Free Wi-Fi is available. Two steps lead down to a private, cosy sleeping area with a super king zip & link bed (can be split into singles upon request).

Two racks of coat hooks and a seven-drawer chest provide storage for clothing. The bathroom is on the same level, with toilet, shower, washbasin, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. Please note - no oven in the property, but a hob and microwave. Sorry no pets LocationFar Sawrey is a tranquil village to the west of Lake Windermere, with a magnificent church and local pub.

The area on your doorstep is stuffed with excellent walking routes; no need to drive to a starting point. Lake Windermere or the passenger and car ferry taking you across to the more lively side of the lake, providing access to shops, restaurants, hire boats and Lake District family attractions in Bowness - including the Royalty Cinema, Old Laundry Theatre and the famous World of Beatrix Potter attraction.

(Please check the times of return ferries). The Cuckoo Brow is the nearest country pub offering great food, with the Tower Bank Arms only a short drive (couple of minutes). The ferry (both car and passenger ferries – please check timetables) is a short drive and it’s worth paying a visit to the Claife viewing station en route which offers breath-taking views along the lake.

There are lovely walks along the lakeshore in both directions.

Wray Castle is a popular destination. Beatrix Potter's footsteps are right on your doorstep, in this prime location for walking and exploring.

The close-by hamlet of Near Sawrey was the author's home, and her traditional Lakeland cottage can be visited at Hill Top.

Esthwaite Water is a must-see during your stay; declared by Beatrix Potter as 'the most beautiful of lakes'.

Moss Eccles tarn was another of her favourite places and it’s a lovely walk over Claife Heights.

Near Sawrey's Tower Bank Arms is a renowned Lake District country pub and featured in Beatrix Potter's books. Hawkshead village is also only a short drive away.

With its car-free cobbled streets, local shops, tea rooms and tempting delicatessens you'll find a leisurely day is well spent. Drive a little further and you'll reach Ambleside; a cosmopolitan Lake District village with sophisticated shops, cafes and restaurant’s.

From Ambleside, you can also stroll to Waterhead Pier to take a cruise on Lake Windermere or follow the A591 to Rydal Water and historic Grasmere.

FAR SAWREY

Hawkshead 3.9 miles; Bowness (via ferry) 1.5 miles.

The village of Far Sawrey has a pub/restaurant, whilst Bowness, with all its shops, restaurants and leisure facilities, is just a short distance across the lake by ferry. Also close by is ‘Hill Top’, once the home of Beatrix Potter, and Hawkshead with its picturesque 17th century cottages. Footpaths lead from the grounds to the village and Claife Heights - a noted beauty spot of forests and tarns. Watersports are close at hand on Windermere, along with Lake Cruises and the majestic Wray Castle to admire. Fishing can be enjoyed on nearby Esthwaite Water and, of course, fell walking.
