“A lovely, comfortable cottage in a quiet location.”

All the amenities are as listed on the website. Mary and Bertie are very welcoming and are close by if any issues arise. The cottage is located about a 15/20 minutes walk into Cartmel where there are plenty of opportunities for a meal and drink. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Crag End Cottage and would not hesitate to stay again if we were holidaying in the area.

“Cartmel is a hidden gem, not very busy and lovely location.”

Mary's cottage was very lovely. We stayed there for 5 nights. She has put a lot of effort to provide everything we need incl milk for the first day. One of the cleanest cottages we stayed ever. No garden space but right next to the public footpath to walks. Village at walking distance. We have seen several Roe dears closer to the cottage. We would love to come back next year.

“We really enjoyed our stay at Crag End Cottage.”

It was clean and very comfortable, especially the sofa! The perfect location for us with our dog, lots of beautiful walks all around. The local pubs and shops are only a 20 minute walk away, again you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful walk. The owner Mary is lovely and had thought of all the little things that you might need or want. It was great to meet her and her dog Bertie! We recommend this property and we will book again next year.

“We had a lovely week in this cottage, it was a pleasure to meet Mary and Bertie.”

Mary had been so helpful prior to arriving and whilst staying in her cottage. It’s a lovely little cottage with everything you could possibly need. I didn’t use it but I loved the idea of a slow cooker, a great addition. My husband has limited mobility so found the sofa too low but we managed with lots of cushions and me hauling him to his feet!! Apart from that the cottage is really comfortable though it was strange going downstairs to bed! The shower was superb, and easy to use too. A good folder of instructions to aid our stay along with plenty of books, dvds and games so everyone is catered for. To be able to just step out of the door and have some lovely dog walks was brilliant, the surroundings are wonderful, I really enjoyed exploring with Bobby, our JRT. All in all we had a wonderful week staying in this lovely cottage and exploring a fantastic area. Well worth a revisit sometime.

“Wonderful cottage, one of the best we've stayed in!”

Had everything we needed, well equipped and thought out. Bed was very comfortable, as was the homely cottage in general. Mary the owner was friendly and helpful and we appreciated the welcome pack, and biscuits for our pooch! There's not much of a garden but the green space directly out the back of the cottage where the footpath goes was really useful for stretching all our legs. Cartmel is a lovely spot, nice shops and pubs, and its a beautiful peaceful area. Not far from Windermere and Arnside. Would definitely love to stay again and explore more!

Our dog loved being able to run along the fells behind the cottage whilst we enjoyed the outstanding views that the area has to offer. Highly recommend a walk into Cartmel where you can pick up some of the infamous Sticky Toffee Pudding!! We loved how the entire town was dog friendly! It’s a perfect hideaway for a visit to the Lakes. We visited with our German Shepherd for a week. You can’t fault the facilities - comfy bed, fully equipped kitchen, modern bathroom with a fantastic shower, great heating system. The kitchen in particular has everything you need - even a slow cooker and a recipe book! Perfect to get a joint of meat from a local butcher and leave it stewing all day while you go out for a walk. We recommend the sticky toffee puddings from the shop in Cartmel (they are every bit as good as you think!). Mary is very welcoming and made sure every part of our stay was perfect. I can’t wait to book again.

The countryside is absolutely beautiful. As for the cottage….10 out of 10 for Mary. It is spotlessly clean and Mary has thought of absolutely everything to make your stay like home from home and all the little decor touches just add to this. The whole cottage is decorated very tastefully. There is everything you need in the kitchen, the lounge is very cozy and the bathroom provides constant hot water when needed. The bedroom is cozy too with a comfortable king size bed. Our only moan (and it is a very small one) was lack of storage for clothes in the bedroom. There is nowhere to hang anything should you need to and we did live out of our suitcase the whole week. Mary mentioned lack of storage to us so she is aware of this. We enjoyed our stay and so did Sid our cockapoo who (as we live in a bungalow) thought the stairs was a game!! Mary was on hand should you need her and was very knowledgeable on places to visit and an extremely helpful and friendly host. Would we recommend Crag End Cottage, ABSOLUTELY. Thank you Mary.

The property

Crag End Cottage is a very special upside-down cottage resting up a private driveway in the picturesque village of Cartmel, Cumbria.

Home to a quaint patio area, and footpaths from the doorstep leading over the fellside, and down to the village, this delightful dwelling is ideal for a solo traveller or couple looking to explore the beautiful Lake District.

It's situated within easy reach of the village but offers a lovely quiet location.

Arriving at the cottage, off-road parking greets you before stepping into the hall and making your way up to the first floor.

Hosting a living/dining room with an electric stove, enjoy snuggling up with your loved one to watch some TV after an adventurous day out, during the Winter period Cartmel Priory can be clearly seen from the window.

From here, take advantage of the kitchen, which hosts an electric oven and hob so you can whip up delicious meals to enjoy at the dining table, and a handy dishwasher to make cleaning up a breeze.

As the evening draws to a close, make your way back downstairs to rest your head in the plush king-size.

When you wake, utilise the en-suite shower room and prepare for another day of discovering your surroundings.

In the warmer months, make yourself a coffee using the coffee machine, and savour it out in the garden in the crisp morning air.

Nearby, be sure to visit the famous Cartmel Village Shop to pick up some sticky toffee and quirky souvenirs for your friends, or pop to one of the many local village pubs for some tasty pub grub in a friendly setting.
