Thank you to John for his hospitality and chats. Twig, Blade, Thorn and Bramble added extra entertainment for the little un. Cottage is lovely with high ceilings and space. Getting to and from property; be prepared for tight lanes, however, traffic is minimal. Some lovely walks and views from the property. A great base to explore the southern and western lakes.

“You won't find better than this cottage in the Lake District.”

It's both modern and rustic and really cosy and warm. The views are amazing and the location is great; we loved Kendal and found some fantastic walks both locally and a short drive away. Staying on a working farm was an amazing experience for our children, seeing how many lambs had been born each morning and getting to meet them. The owners are a lovely, welcoming family who were happy to answer all of our children's questions. We'll definitely be back and will be recommending the cottage to friends and family.

Both John and Hazel are great hosts, should you require advice on anywhere to go?.....as well as all the information detailed within the 'house' information book or just sit-in and chill-lax with a good book, a large glass of wine or G & T in front of the fire,...what's not to like?...lol.

The owners are the nicest people you could meet. This was our third visit and we will hope to return as soon as possible. A great base for walking with easy access to quieter parts of the fells which are every bit as stunning as the hotspots (Windermere and Ambleside are just an easy drive away). A very short hop to Kendal for the supermarket and lots of great independent shops and cafes. Thank you for another great holiday.

Beautiful cottage in lovely location. Quite remote but we really liked that. Nothing to hear but birds, sheep and sometimes John's tractor! John and Hazel are the perfect hosts and we felt very sad to leave. Twig the dog and Blade the cat provide lots of cuddle time. Cottage was spacious and well furnished...it lacked nothing. We will return for sure!

“Wonderful cottage, everything was top quality, comfortable furniture and beds, kitchen had everything you need.”

Property was lovely and warm in fact so warm we turned the heating off. Nice seating area on the patio and a large lawned area where our granddaughter could play. Easy access to all the tourist areas and easy to get to various lakes and towns. Highly recommended, we would certainly return.

Our kids loved feeding the horses in the field next door and being next to a working farm there was lots for them to look at and enjoy during our stay. The cottage exceeded all our expectations, the view from the kitchen window made washing up a pure joy! It was very comfortable and clean, had everything we needed, and was fully accessible for everyone, however their mobility affects them. With a lovely ramped entrance, as well as steps for the more able. Extra wide doors, and accessible shower and bathroom. We can not think of anything negative at all. As for Twig your beautiful little dog, she was absolutely adorable, we could easily have brought her home with us, she was so welcoming and a real cutie. “Idyllic accommodation in superb location What an amazing cottage!”

Spacious, immaculately clean & cosy, and equipped with everything you could conceivably need for a holiday. Traditional & rustic in appearance and feel, it was also bristling with mod cons, right down to the self-closing blinds and skylights in the bedrooms. The setting was perfect. We enjoyed being on an authentic working farm, but at the same time were overawed by the tranquillity and stunning, unspoilt scenery in all directions. What a joy to wake up to the sight of swallows swooping and rabbits scurrying every morning! As for the location just NE of Kendal, it enabled us to access the southern & northern lakes with equal ease. A couple of favourite excursions entailed taking the gondola across Coniston Water to Ruskin's beautiful retreat at Brantwood and eating out on the garden terrace, whilst on another day we followed paths around Rydal to Rydal Hall and Wordsworth's house at Rydal Mount, making a lucky find for lunch at the Giggling Goose sited beside the beck & watermill in Ambleside. On returning to the cottage each evening we loved venturing out again after dinner to explore the awesome country lanes and bridleways that extend for miles around and without - hardly ever - encountering a car. Thanks, John & Hazel, for being such friendly & helpful hosts!

It was also very well equipped with everything you would need for a self-catering stay with handy things like cling film/foods bags/fairy liquid etc which you don't often get supplied. The kitchen cupboards were full of herbs & spices etc & the milk, bread & biscuits were a nice welcome too. There was also a large supply of local maps, books of various walks & other things to do. The owners were very friendly & on hand if needed. All in all it was a good base to explore the Lake District and to get away from it all!

Both bathrooms are lovely and have powerful showers which were much appreciated after long walks. The kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery and has a good range of pots and pans. The cottage is on a working farm and John and Hazel were both very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Really well equipped clean and comfortable. Great place for young children, the owner was welcoming and happy to let our young granddaughter see his cows and sheep in the barn. Big garden with patio and seating and a trampoline, bit rainy when we were there but would be great in good weather. Would highly recommend for a get away from it all break.

As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a lovely clean and fresh cottage. Milk, biscuits and wine was there for our arrival which came in handy after the long drive. John and Hazel were the perfect hosts and made us feel extremely welcome. Pictures of the cottage do not do it justice... at night the cottage comes to life with all its unique features and beautiful lighting. Although there is so much to do in the area we were content in enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and building family memories in front of the fire. The cottage is equipped to such a high standard it really was like home from home. We shall definitely be returning again and again! We all felt very sad leaving as it really was a magical stay in a magnificent setting. Would highly recommend to anyone! The children enjoyed playing on the fields and watching the animals on the farm. All you need and more!

Very friendly and helpful owners, a superb quiet location with great views but easy driving distance to Kendal and elsewhere in the Lake District. The cottage is warm and cosy for a winter break, with underfloor central heating throughout and a wonderful logburner in the lounge area. It is beautifully furnished and decorated and everything is very clean. The starter packs re a few food items and also for the logburner were much appreciated. We were so impressed with the cottage that we have already vowed to return in the future. Thank you, John and Hazel, for our stay in your beautiful cottage.

“Little Crake is a fantastic cottage, just outside the Lake District National Park and about 10 minutes drive from Kendal.”

Everything was immaculate when we arrived, and our lovely hosts John and Hazel had provided some basic necessities including milk, eggs, bread, biscuits and a bottle of wine. The cottage was beautifully warm with plenty of hot water, so that (sadly!) even in late September we didn't need to light the log burner. The cottage is more spacious than it seems in the photos, and some nice touches include a portable touch screen that operates the Velux roof windows and blinds. They even close automatically when it rains! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage.

SELSIDE NEAR KENDAL

Kendal 6 miles; Windermere 14 miles; Penrith 24 miles.

Situated 6 miles north of the nearby market town of Kendal, Selside is an area in the rolling foothills of the Shap fells with its own church and village hall. Used as a holiday base, Selside is within easy driving distance to the breathtaking Lake District via Windermere for the South Lakes or Penrith for the North Lakes. The Western Yorkshire Dales are also just a short, lovely drive away via the town of Sedburgh. The nearby town of Kendal (sometimes known as the Gateway to the Lakes), offers a wide variety of pubs and restaurants with the Brewery Arts Centre offering live entertainment and cinema, as well as excellent dining experiences. Selside also offers beautiful and peaceful countryside walks with inspiring views especially towards the Howgill Fells, known locally as the "sleeping elephants".
