Would help if emphasised distance to nearest convenience store, as location quite remote.

More attention to little details would help: on arrival one glass broken, one wine glass missing. No freezer, not even in fridge compartment. No soap and shower bottles fixed to wall empty on arrival

First class accommodation everything you would need for a self catering holiday was provided, clean, comfortable and with views to die for.

Wild life on the water was in abundance, swans with cygnets, geese with gosling as well as ducks, rabbits and a numerous amount of wild birds too. We didn't need good weather we were entertained from the comfort of our accommodation. Would thoroughly recommend

We've just returned from the most relaxing week at Macan.

It couldn't be in a better position for pure relaxation and is modern, comfortable and well kitted out. Some tips for the area - contact the Tower Bank Arms in Near Sawrey to book for food (best in the area). Sign up for daily ferry updates (it was down four times in the week we were there). There are some wonderful walks from the doorstep. We will absolutely stay again!

Beautiful location, especially as we were blessed with sunshine all week.

It's possible to go for walks from the front door, and Bowness was only 10 minutes away on the ferry. The cottage has everything you could possibly want for a couple plus parking right outside. Couple of things would push rating to 5 stars. A thinner duvet (only bedding was 13.5 tog) plus bed spread would be better as we couldn't get temperature for sleeping quite right. Also the shower needs attention. The shower head kept lowering (a replacement fixing is cheap and would solve that) and one of the doors fell off the runner. No accident occurred and my husband managed to pop it back into place. I couldn't have done it though. If possible could the owners contact the council and get the "Keep clear" road markings repainted? Not a major problem for us, but once the ferry crossing gets busy it will become an issue, as cars parked over the access to parking spaces. We would definitely come again (this was our second visit, just to a different cottage)

Most definitely a 5 star location overlooking the lake, with a balcony to enjoy the afternoon sun.

The contemporary property is lovely with modern fittings and furniture and is generally a very comfortable place to stay. Lacks a few items which would have given it a 5 star rating. The TV is not a Smart one with no DVD player, so bring a laptop for streaming films etc. A clothes airer would be a useful addition as non tumble dry clothes need to hang somewhere. Bring extra hangers, kitchen waste bin bags and a few items like foil/cling//cooking oil. It’s a good location for visiting the Western Lake District, with plenty of hiking in beautiful places, the scenery all stunning. The ferry over to Bowness is seasonal and subject to weather conditions. It could be awkward to move the car when it’s busy in high season as the queue for the landing runs past the properties. It’s a pity there’s no box junction in the road right outside so other drivers leave room for you to get out! Overall a really nice place to stay.

We have stayed in Macan many times and always enjoy our time there.

There were a couple of small issues however, firstly the lights outside Macan and Frost were not working, making it difficult to negotiate the steps at the front and enter the key code in the dark. Secondly the heating and hot water went off on the last day. We did report it to the cleaner on departure day. I just hope it has been resolved for the next occupants. We will be back in the future.

The accommodation was fabulous and it was lovely to sit and look out over the lake and watch the birds.

The one slight downside was the lack of toilet roll (only one supplied for 7 days), no tissues, no kitchen roll and only two towels per person. I'm sure for the price paid, a second loo roll should not be too much to ask? And perhaps a spare towel... Otherwise, we had a wonderful time revisiting our old haunts from when we worked at the FBA. Thank you

Really lovely property right on the water.

Very clean! Could do with a little updating in the bathroom and the bathroom sink is still completely blocked despite reviews and complaints from other people. Reported to Sykes on day one, however had no response. Very remote location so bring literally everything you need as the nearest shop is at least 30 minutes drive or a ferry trip away. Driving is not for the faint hearted in this area!! All that said, we had a wonderful peaceful walking holiday in beautiful Cumbria and would recommend!!

Unrivalled location - stunning views outside your door !

The views from the lovely balcony could be improved by pruning the trees and bushes which I understand was scheduled for end of August. Sykes website though needs to update the photo from the balcony to reflect the existing perspective. We did have an issue, however Tracey resolved this the very same day and went above and beyond to ensure we were happy - thank you, much appreciated.

Lovely little apartment and ideally placed for us on the quiet side of the lake with the ferry right on the doorstep when we wanted to go into the town.

A previous review stated that the bathroom sink was blocked, this had been repaired at some point and was all working for us. One suggestion, with the weather being so hot we couldn’t sit out on the veranda with the sun beaming straight down on us. A parasol for the table or an awning would have made it perfect.

The property is in a lovely position overlooking the lake we knew this prior as we have stayed in Lund.

The property itself could do with a deep clean. I washed what looked like a blood stain from the rug which wasn’t pleasant to be fair the rug needs cleaning. Coasters were broken at edges and half a broken wooden spoon to use! The arms of the settee were dirty and on arrival the smelt It is ideal for two people but just needs a little attention

It was a lovely location ,the sink in the bathroom smelt and water wouldn't drain ,could of done with a couple more towels as 2 isn't enough other than that we had a fabulous holiday

Only issue we had was the bathroom sink is very slow to drain.

Not a problem but probably needs attending to.Parking was sometimes awkward due to the traffic waiting to board the ferry.Overall lovely stay Thankyou

Lovely place, beautiful setting.

Can't fault anything. Ferry was only £1.15 on foot and was right on the doorstep which was great. The Lake was 2 meters from the balcony ideal for paddle boarding. Will definitely be returning.

We were unable to turn on the towel rail in the bathroom.

Even when checking the exterior switch was switched on, and buttons below rail pressed. - Presumably the fuse has blown? The dryer in the washing machine didn’t get hot, and therefore didn’t dry any clothes, which was a pain. Obviously we used the aired, but it would have been more convenient to have a working dryer, especially when you get soaked several times a day! But overall the cottage was lovely. The view was superb, and the location was perfect. A wonderful cottage. Thank you. Shame the ferry’s website doesn’t get updated in real time. We saw people get ‘caught out’ by it, but thankfully we didn’t.

We reported bathroom sink blocked and smelt of sewage on Sunday .

..but despite getting a service reference no one came to sort it so we had to use a glass bowl from the kitchen in the sink & tip dirty water into the loo.

Beautiful views. Cosy lounge and fab bedroom with a view of the lake. That was lovely to wake up to. Nice big bathroom.

Absolutely lovely cottage, perfect for a couple with a dog wanting a relaxing week.

Ensure your equipped with food etc as ferry to windermere was not running some days then it's a 6 mile walk to town but we were, as recommended. Super comfy bed & fan available large walk in shower. Spotlessly clean & warm. The view is perfect, so peaceful & relaxing. Brilliant choice. Only addition would be a tv upstairs!

The cottage was very clean and has lovely views of the lake and boats with visiting ducks, a robin, wrens etc.

My wife found the bed too firm and uncomfortable and the sofa uncomfortable but I had no problem with either. We didn't use the dishwasher or washing machine. The ferry wasn't running all week. The roads to Ambleside, Hawkshead and Coniston are fine. The journey to Newby Bridge was via single lanes with passing places and had to reverse for a few large vehicles. There are plenty of nearby walks, details in the file. We loved it there but have concerns when the ferry is running that queuing vehicles would block the parking for the cottages. The 'keep clear' sign on the road is worn away.

Great location and we enjoyed the quiet because it was out of season and the ferry was closed.

I imagine it could be busy traffic in summer. One of the reviews said they had a hamper on arrival but we didn't. It could do with extra essentials like a spare bag for the bin and soap in the kitchen.

The holiday was good value, the property lovely for a week's stay.

A problem with the washing machine was solved by letting agency and owner really well. Other points: given how isolated the cottage is, it is surprising that basics like salt, pepper and oil are not provided. Only two wine glasses, 2 beer glasses means that washing up needs done daily. Only one dishwasher tablet, one washing tablet, two toilet rolls - totally inadequate for a week, and feels unnecessarily penny pinching given the high quality of the accommodation. Many thanks.

A fabulous little holiday let situated right by the ferry terminal across to Bowness.

Ticked all the boxes for us and we loved the little hamper that was waiting for us when we arrived, such a nice touch. We had no complaints about anything really and would definitely consider staying there again. Communication with Sykes Cottage s was all very clear for arrival and departure.

A more comfortable sofa in the living room would be nice.

As my husband is 6 foot 5 we ended up taking the TV upstairs to watch. Also a few bulbs out, one damaged light socket - didn't affect us but should be taken care of. That said fantastic property, in a great location - would definitely stay here again!

We’ve just returned from a lovely stay at Macan.

The property is in a great location with the back looking directly onto the lake. The ferry across the lake is perfectly located right outside the front. It was well equipped with everything we needed. There is work going on next to the building but that didn’t cause too much noise. It made a great base after lots of walking. Wray castle is well worth a visit, as is Aira Force waterfalls. We’ve left a few walks in the folder for the next users but there are loads of walks in the area. Helvellyn also worth the effort! Only slight criticism for the property was no hand soap which I thought would be pretty standard. We bought some and have gifted it to the next visitors!

Lovely place but could have done with some extra seating ( weather wasn’t very good ) and a shaving mirror over the sink would have been helpful

We checked before booking that the trees and bushes would be cut down to give an uninterrupted view of the lake as advised in the picture of Macan on the site, the bushes had been thinned out but the trees were very tall and bushy obscuring our view, we contacted Sykes to let them know but nothing was communicated back.

Macan is a clean well equipped place. This is a beautiful part of the Lake District and we would book again if we could be sure we had the view as promoted in the advert.

The property was excellent, the only issue we had was the duvet was not changed for the summer ie too hot and heavy.

Wonderful place, we enjoyed lovely weather which allowed us to spend some time on the balcony admiring the lovely view and nature.

Second time we have stayed in these beautiful cottages.

Everything that you need is there for you. Very peaceful and perfect for a chilled get away. The only problem we had this time was that the car ferry was closed and we had no knowledge of this. Of course this is the councils work but a message regarding this prior to arriving, would have been appreciated.

Would have liked a vaccine cleaner or sweeping brush in the property .

With bringing a dog for 5 nights we would have liked a clean up of the floor area for our own comfort. We wasn't aware that the router for the entire cottages was located in the roof area of our bedroom so when the Internet in other properties in the block went down the maintenance had to come into our property this did Marr our last day there letting maintenance in and out. We did ask the question what would happen if we hadn't been in the property their response was we have a master key !! I really do hope they wouldn't have entered the property with out our consent. Other than that beautiful location and a bonus the ferry wasn't running so no traffic .

Beautiful place to bed before a hike.

Brilliant facilities, everything you need to make a hardy meal so make sure you bring your own food. Parking space outside your door. Wildlife comes to your balcony everyday so bring some bird seed to enjoy robins, blue tits, chaffinch, mandarin duck and more! Wonderful stay! Thank you

The property is absolutely beautiful and we didnt want to leave.

The views and location spectacular. Bed super comfy and the shower was gorgeous. The only small negative is that the hoover had no suction at all and we even cleaned it out hoping it would help. So times when you may want to run hoover round quickly, we could not do. Other than that, a fabulous stay and we will be back.

Lovely property on the lake next to Far Sawrey ferry point and close Claife viewing station, Joeys cafe and Ash Landing Nature Reserve.

This 1 bedroom property is dog friendly with a modern well equipped kitchen and en-suite. The bedroom has a lovely view across the lake and the lounge opens onto a decking area with seating overlooking the lake. Additional bonus is you are a member of the British Biological Association during your stay who provide a luxurious welcome hamper. Great base to walk to Hill Top and Wray Castle and a quick ferry ride to get to Bowness on Windermere to explore the shops and other walks.

We had a lovely week at Macan early March and the weather was perfect.

We were unable to stay there in December because of heavy snow and we were able to transfer our booking without any difficulty. We loved everything, the area, the comfortable accommodation and the visiting wildlife. We did struggle to lower the heating thermostat even after consulting the instructions, so it was very warm. Better than cold though. The welcome pack was also much appreciated. We must apologise for not removing our food from the fridge as we only realised it was missing when we got home.

The property itself was exactly as described and the location is great.

Unfortunately the cottage was not cleaned properly before we arrived and this really spolied what should have been a lovely property. The cups and plates had been used and just put back in the cupboard without being washed and even a broken glass in the cupboard. The cutlery was dirty too meaning we had to wash everything before we could use things which meant the 2 dishwasher tablets left weren't enough and we had to buy more. The big table and nest of tables were sticky with drink rings with dog hairs stuck in them. There were bug white and black dog hairs all over the place so when you walked around they were stuck to your socks. There was no bin bag other than one with a burst washing machine tablet in just thrown in the cupboard. The grill tray was gross and again had been used and not washed. I didn't expect the spend the first day of a long weekend cleaning the place. It looked like the housekeeping had made the bed and changed the towels and never checked anything else. We were very disappointed and it left quite a sour taste to the trip.

Great views...simple accomodation...easy parking. We had Macan and family had another in the same block. Really enjoyed the stay... apart from classic lakes weather!

The only negative comment about Macron is that there was a distinct doggy smell but as it was a dog friendly place probably inevitable !

Macan is a wonderful place to stay .

. so relaxing and peaceful. It is the second time we have stayed here and won't be the last. If I could make a couple of suggestions .. it's not criticism. I am almost 70 and when I have a shower, I feel safe standing on a non slip mat, so I was frightened of slipping .. so perhaps a non slip mat in the bathroom ? Also, our Corgi sheds a lot of hair .. we cover the sofa and rug with sheets so nothing goes on them. On the day before we leave, we like to tidy round and brush the floor etc. so, where the kitchen bin is, could a small dustpan and brush be stored in there ?

Absolutely amazing property, we couldn't have asked for better and the location is fantastic.

The small welcome hamper was really appreciated, as well as the dishwasher tablets etc. Property was very clean, tidy, warm and comfortable and definitely had enough room for the two of us and our 32kg Collie. Washer/dryer was a fantastic bonus, especially with the wet weather. The only niggle is the ferry traffic as there can be long queues and people don't leave the Keep Clear box clear (I've reported it to the local council as it needs new markings) so it can be a pain to park/leave and the queue can make it hard getting back at times, but it won't stop us from booking again. Being able to use the jetty was fantastic for paddling from, and the bay is sheltered so even with high winds on the main lake, it was possible to kayak safely. We will definitely book again as we absolutely loved it there. I do have to apologise too as we got halfway home and realised we had left a bag in the bin

Lovely little cottage.

Very well placed and has everything you would need for a self catering stay in the lakes. Sleeps 2 plus a small dog very comfortably. Cleanliness wise it could do with some small improvements. The rug smells and the kitchen area could do with more deep cleaning particularly the microwave and between the sink and worktop. All in all a very enjoyable stay!

We loved our stay in this comfortable apartment with its stunning views and tranquility.

The cottage was in an ideal location.

..very comfy bed. However...the photo on your website needs to be updated as it shows a clear view...but there are now trees in front of the property! Someone did trim them while we were there...but still effects the view.

We loved our week on the Lakes.

Macan is perfect for the trip to Bowness whilst being quiet on the West Bank. Macan was lovely with everything we needed for the week. The jets were a surprise but phenomenal to watch and the noise. Well this added to our week. Thank you for a great week.

The property was very hot, I know it was summer but the windows didn’t open very wide upstairs so no there was no breeze which made sleeping difficult, the blind in the bedroom was difficult to pull up-a curtain for the glass front near the door would help stop the heat going straight up the stairs-if the bushes/shrubs could be cut down so your view of the beautiful lake could be seen from the balcony it would have made it a perfect holiday- overall it was a great stay, fantastic location, and the ferry rides were the icing on the cake.

With the curtain for the glass front and the bushes cut back we would definitely come again

Picture makes property look bigger but still had a good time and was very clean, not a lot of facilities nearby after the ferry closes at 4 pm but great for a relaxing holiday

The location was beautiful and peaceful.Views from the living room and bedroom were spectacular! Crossing the ferry enabled us to go to Bowness to explore. The accomodation was of an excellent standard, and had everything we needed. I would certainly stay there again. Thankyou.

A very well equiped clean warm cottage.

set in a lovely location next-door to the ferry. All modern cons supplied to make it a relaxing holiday with plenty of walks from the cottage and a short drive to others.

Our third stay in these cottages, the second one in Macan.

This time we had a couple of maintenance issues but they were dealt with promptly with minimal issue to ourselves. We had a lovely stay.

Would like to point out that there is a hole in the wall next to the front door which was already there when we arrived, also the basin waste is running away very slowly and the bedroom blind is very difficult to pull up

General cleaning standard not great- dog hairs/ had to clean cooker tray.

Most alarming was the fact that we were basically left with no heating or hot water from 5pm Saturday to 3pm Monday- I reported this online and via office but no urgency and we ended up going to a spa for a shower on the Sunday and going to bed early to keep warm. Not really ideal for a relaxing break away. It would be good if someone could contact me to discuss this?

A great little cottage with all facilities looking out on the rear of the lake.

We both enjoyed it, as did our dog, Maverick. We would go again if we wanted a lakes holiday.

Immaculate facilities and spotless. Loved every minute of this holiday. Beautiful walks, perfect location, so much too see. The cottage had everything you needed. Excellent parking right in front of property. Right next to ferry across Windermere. Highly recommend this accommodation.

Beautiful walks around Windermere. Lovely apartment in a beautiful setting. Loved sitting out on the balcony chillaxing watching the wildlife. It was well equipped and a lovely welcome pack was waiting for us containing all local produce. We have already booked to go back at a later date…….. highly recommended.

A lovely clean, compact but well-equipped property.

Brilliant location for the ferry to Bowness and for some beautiful local walks including to Dove Cottage - home of Beatrix Potter. A gorgeous view of the top of the lake and a peaceful balcony for looking over the water. A comfy bed, a spacious bathroom and a living area with all you needed to relax.

cottage spotlessly clean problem with the sink in the bathroom was quickly sorted could not gat key safe to open as we were leaving so had to leave the door unlocked and key on kitchen work top hope wed did,nt give the cleaners a heat attack when they arrived and could.nt see the key straight away

quite a lot of dog hairs got onto our clothing, we would like a TV in the bedroom, we would have liked a clock on the wall in the lounge.

Other than that we absolutely loved it, especially the location and view over the lake.

We absolutely adored the property.

Though it was compact it was extremely well set out and very comfortable. Loved the balcony overlooking the lake, favourite place for breakfast. Great quiet location..so relaxing . Would definitely love to stay again.

Fantastic location right on the lake (the ferry traffic queues kindly opened up to let our car through when we needed to get in or out).

There's a lovely little balcony looking out on the water. The bed was very comfortable and the shower is good. The sofa needs to be replaced (it's pretty grubby) and ideally a 3-seat sofa put in (2 is a bit of a squeeze on a rainy day when you're both stuck indoors). The rug is absolutely filthy and should be replaced urgently. Apart from these dirty items the cottage was cosy and we enjoyed our few days there.

Beautifully decorated, bringing the outside colours in. Welcome hamper and toiletries a nice touch. Some equipment in the kitchen could have been cleaner. Surprised and disappointed there was nowhere to recycle items - we took ours home! Could the local council be approached to repaint the “keep clear” sign outside the parking bays?

Excellent location. Only slight irritation was that on returning to apartment on two occasions we got stuck in the queue for the Bowness ferry before being able to park. Also although there is a space marked keep clear for residents this was not always adhered to by the public. Not really sure what you can do about this though. However excellent holiday otherwise.

We had a super holiday at Macan.

The accommodation was in a perfect location and immaculate. The accommodation was very well equipped and we had everything we needed. The welcome pack was a lovely touch.

This was our 2nd stay at The Macan: we loved it that much!

This stay was better because the weather was perfect (stayed in December last year). A very relaxing stay after a stressful year. Well positioned for lovely local walks and to catch the ferry to Bowness for drinks and a meal. Great base to explore the southern lakes. Only problem we had was the bedroom blind is broken so couldn’t pull right up or right down: stuck two thirds down. Glad I took my eye mask. And when you want to take your car out, keep an eye on the ferry queue.....

Handy for ferry across lake and Hawkshead/Coniston direction as well. Recommend purchasing a book of ferry tickets in advance.

It was great!

(Apart from the weather.) Ideal for two adults and a dog looking for a great location for a peaceful walking holiday in the lakes. Will be looking to re-book. Small suggestion would be to put a corner soap basket in the shower to put shampoo/conditioners in, so you don't need to bend down. Would be safer.

Great location.

Difficult to get the car out of the parking space when other vehicles are waiting in line for the ferry. Can opener does not work. Electric kettle and one saucepan should be changed. We could not find the manual to operate the heating. No extra blanket could be found. We were there during cold nights. The cottage is in a wonderful location. We greatly appreciate the welcome basket full of local goodies. All and all Macan is highly recommended.

Lovely spot within easy reach to the lakes vveey relaxing

The property was ideal for 2, fully equipped, Nice and quiet, apart from the regular morning smoke alarm from a neighbour , who I guess liked their toast burnt .

Ideal location for what we wanted, it might be a bit of a nuisance during a busy time of year, for getting back into parking space as road markings to advise drivers to keep entrance clear were almost invisible, to the drivers queueing for the ferry. Enjoyed the holiday, though that had been moved from our original May date. Would go back again. Ps the can opener is getting worn, and not easy to reach to open bathroom windows.

A few more kitchen items would have been helpful eg cutlery, glasses.

We were delighted with the holiday and booked again for next year despite the fact that the cost for exactly the same week has risen by 25% which is excessive!

This is our third stay at these cottages love the cottages and location cleanliness is what brought this review down due to current climate I thought the cleanliness would have been 5 star I’d rate it 2 star as due to the climate I took cleaning products with me on sight the kitchen looked okay till you move anything the fridge was not clean inside cupboards not clean sink not clean and the basin that you would be meant to wash up in was disgusting chopping board , dish drainer and utensils not much better!

Inside the bins filthy clean bin liner put in on top,Pooh on the toilet rim! We love the location of these cottages and would always want to return but the dirt did put us off returning.

Extremely clean Nice touches like a welcome basket

Great holiday location on the quiet side of Windermere Macan is a very nice apartment perfect for a couple really comfortable I couldn’t fault it and it was immaculately clean.

The only negative is the queuing traffic for the ferry often blocked our car in but it didn’t bother us too much as we were there to kayak and walk. I’d recommend this lovely holiday home if you want quiet and are happy with local facilities being a ferry ride away We had a lovely holiday.

Enjoyable week at macan for 2nd year running cosy and homely accommodation only downside was the ferry was not running yet again and had to drive If wanting to go to bowness other than that enjoyed great walks locally with our border collie who loved going in the lake for a good paddle

We had seven glorious days in this lovely property.

The views across Windermere were amazing. We cannot fault this property especially for the comfort and cleanliness. Many thoughtful touches like a welcome basket full of quality items together with bathroom luxuries. The property is a perfect base for exploring and so convenient for the ferry which was only yards away. We will definitely be returning to such a gem.
