“We enjoyed our week at Pennington.”
The cottage is comfortable and ideal for 2 people. It's on 2 stories and the stairs go straight up into the bedroom (no door), which worried me a bit, imagining getting up in the dark and falling downstairs. It didn't cause any problem though and there are bedside lamps, just that I'm a worrier! We had a nice welcome pack including milk, jam & chutney. The fridge only has a small icebox so don't take frozen food with you!
The location was great, literally yards from the ferry over to Bowness which runs every 20 minutes and takes less than 10 minutes to cross, though I expect this could get very busy during peak holiday season. It's £1 for foot passengers & £5 per car, each way. There was a little hut near the ferry where you could get ice cream, coffee etc.
The Boathouse, Bowness is good for an informal meal, which is a 10 minute walk when you get off the ferry. Hawkshead is lovely. We visited the grammar school where William Wordsworth went, which was very interesting. You have to phone ahead and book. If you want to visit Hilltop where Beatrix Potter lived, you must book before you go or you won't get in. We didn't plan ahead unfortunately.
We loved having a balcony and managed to sit out a couple of times, despite not having the best week for weather. There was a problem with the heating but we were able to operate it manually & it may be fixed now. One morning there was no hot water but it was ok later in the day.
We would definitely go back, in fact if it had been available for the following week we would have extended our stay.
