    “Disappointing.”

The photographs over-flatter this place but the main problem is that it is a very cold house that is difficult to heat even with the central heating. We were unable to get the dining room anywhere near warm enough to use at any point during our stay. The log burner is efficient but the thermostat for the whole house is in that room so as soon as the log burner warms it up the heating in the all the rest of the house goes off! The house is really not suitable for a winter stay. No welcome pack ...

No welcome pack or even paper/kindling/ logs supplied to start the fire so we had to trek out to buy them when we arrived just to get comfortable. The steps everywhere were advised but become tiresome and risky. Parking for longer than an hour is impossible in Cartmel so you have to use the racecourse carpark. At £10 a day this becomes exorbitant in practice. Shame because the house has potential and is extremely well situated.

Apologies for the late response. To answer your issues from our side: As you say ,the log burner is more than efficient. You were increasing the house temperature to 26 and lighting the log burner but obviously closing all internal doors. In doing this the heating of the whole house will cut out. In the 8 years we have owned the property we have never had any comments about the property being cold. We no longer leave a "welcome pack" as costs were becoming too high. There is , however , tea, coffee , UHT milk & biscuits provided. We do not state anywhere that we provide a variety of fuel. Again , for us as owners , the costs would be prohibitive. The house is some 300 years old so the stairs/step arrangements are are as they were when the property was built. We have no control of parking costs. Every car park in the country have charges , especially in tourist areas. You can pay £10 on a daily basis but , as advertised by the payment machines , you can buy a 7 day ticket for £35 which would show a saving if you are staying for 4 days or more. Sorry you did not enjoy your stay but we try and do our best ! Property Owner
