Lake Windermere lies to the east, and a car-ferry crossing can take you across the lake to explore the lively attractions of Bowness village.
Also close by is the village of Near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter famously lived and was inspired to write her children's stories.

Hawkshead village itself is easily reached to your north around 4 miles from the property; a charming historic village of whitewashed Lakeland cottages, car-free cobbled streets and interesting local shops.
