Great kitchen with all amenities, super shower room, great bed, lovely linen, good tv reception and a lovely view. Our host Anne was very accommodating and keen to make sure everything was to our liking on first arriving. The location is lovely and peaceful being a 1/2+ mile walk from Grasmere. A previous review mentioned the upward climb to the cottage - but this is the Lake District!

“The property was clean, well equipped and had a great view from the picture window.”

It is centrally located for the lakes. It was quite cold inside in the evening despite being summer but the heating was switched off. However, a plug in heater was provided which was really appreciated. The only problem we encountered was the location in respect of exactly how steep the walk up from Dove Cottage to the property was. Unless you are really fit and able bodied, it makes walking to and from Grasmere village prohibitive. I feel the property description does not highlight this fact enough. It's not suitable for the less fit or elderly. Perfect for the fit and active and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay but would not return due to the property positioning.

“We had a lovely stay at Silver Howe, welcomed with a scrumptious treat and tea and coffee supplies, thank you.”

The place was very comfortable and well equipped. The only things we did have a little grumble about was the lack of control with the heating. The radiators seemed to be controlled by an ap, which we didn’t have access to, although a panal heater was supplied. We only used this once or twice as the weather warmed up a bit. And we weren’t really able to use the smart TV as the internet signal was not strong enough to maintain streaming or even use tablets at times. Apart from these two minor things we enjoyed a fabulous holiday and would definitely return here. Many thanks xx

I’m sorry that the WiFi signal to the smart TV was poor during your visit, BT has now rectified this but I’m afraid it does occasionally fall out. I’m aware smart radiators can be quite confusing. The accommodation is superb and the view of Grasmere Lake and beyond interrupted our reading time after time. The kitchen is very well equipped and we would have taken the bed and shower home with us if we could! The location is perfect for exploring the local area and beyond. Our bus passes were used time after time as we visited Windermere, Hawkshead and Keswick. Our walk around Grasmere Lake was a highlight. Quite beautiful. “Perfect apartment for a short birthday break.”

Really well equipped and comfortable. Great location and view of Grasmere. No need to use the car if you like walking. Walked from the door up Fairfield via Alcock Tarn on a perfect sunny day. Also on the route of my favourite run along the lakes and back along the coffin route. Lesser spotted woodpecker seen in the garden. We hope to return!

“An excellent property, warm, cosy and well equipped with private parking space.”

The walk from Grasmere Village is uphill so guests should be prepared for that especially if you’ve just done a long hike on the fells. The Coffin Route walk accessed from the gate in the garden located to the right above the terrace is a lovely walk and Rydal Hall at the Ambleside end has cafe with the best Hot Chocolate. Just a couple of things: the lights over the table don’t work and the shower head holder is loose, (not holding the head up).

“This is a gorgeous apartment, set in glorious private grounds.”

It is furnished and finished to an incredible high standard, but at the same time still feels comfortable and homely. There is lots of great walking from the door. The only negative for me was the rambling 10 steps from the parking to the apartment as I have mobility problems.

“An amazing place to stay!”

Extremely comfortable with quality fixtures and fittings. Fantastic view from the main living room window. Excellent location with walks from the door and walk into Grasmere. Wi-Fi heating issue resolved quickly with the owner. Our preference would be to control this for ourselves. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to a return trip. A true home with all the finishing touches we look forward to having on our holiday.

“The shower did not have a non slip floor and although we are fairly fit for our ages we didn’t feel safe so bought a non slip mat to put in there.”

Also it was quite chilly in the mornings and as the heating was operated by Wi fi, we did not know how to put it on. Otherwise lovely apartment with wonderful view and able to watch the birds and red squirrels from the window.

The property

Silver Howe is a contemporary apartment which forms part of a substantial former Gentleman's residence set in several acres of shared grounds overlooking Grasmere Lake.

The apartment has been completely refurbished and provides stylish modern accommodation ideal for a peaceful retreat for a couple yet only a short walk away from all the amenities in Grasmere village. Wood close is home to a wonderful selection of birds, wild deer and red squirrels, all of which can be seen from the apartment window.

There are lots of walks to be done from the door, including Alcock Tarn, Lion and Lamb or Great Rigg, or just a stroll down to Grasmere Lake or across White Moss common for the less adventurous. Accommodation: Accessed up a path and steps from the car park to the entrance.

Hallway with room to store coats and shoes.

To the right is the well-equipped kitchen with underfloor heating, and to the front is the lounge/diner with comfortable seating, large flat screen Smart TV (stream your own films etc), free Wi-Fi and large picture window with views over the gardens and to Grasmere Lake.

Bedroom with King size bed, Bose wireless speaker and shower room adjacent with large shower, basin, wc, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. The apartment has been renovated to a high standard with furnishings and decor in a modern contemporary style.

Fitted carpets/karndean flooring with thermostatic electric heating and underfloor heating. Outside: Several acres of shared gardens with seating and views towards Grasmere and the lake.

Private parking for one car in allocated space.

On site shared laundry with washer and dryer.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
