“Excellent accommodation in a perfect rural setting whilst close proximity to Windermere.”

Only minor issue was TV and wi-Fi did not always work.

The property

Set just a mile from the centre of Windermere town, Deer Wood forms part of the prestigious Applethwaite Hall, designed by none other than Thomas Muirhead whose other works include Old Trafford and Kensington Oval cricket pavilions.

One of only 12 luxury apartments within this stunning former country house, the building displays a wealth of original features from the Arts and Craft movement and has been sympathetically reworked to combine modern day facilities with early 20th century heritage.

Just a mile from the centre of Windermere, Deer Wood makes an ideal base for enjoying a variety of walks or cycle rides from the door.

The delights of Windermere and Bowness offer you an array of interesting shops, bars and bistros as well as well stocked supermarkets and every day amenities. Accommodation in detail Blessed with a private entrance, Deer Wood is all on the ground floor.

Step into the light and airy entrance hall and beyond to the spacious open plan living space; a wonderful social area presented to a high standard but with the emphasis very much on comfort.

The quality kitchen is well equipped with Neff appliances of oven, hob, microwave fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer/drier.

An adjacent dining area with solid wood furnishings complements the comfortable lounge area.

A door leads from here out to a cleverly created and totally private decked garden.

Occupying a sunny, corner spot above an established rockery within the grounds, it is perfect for enjoying an aperitif before dinner, when our Lakeland weather will allow, and if the rain should fall, the covered veranda with further outdoor seating is the perfect place to sit and take in the sights and sounds of the woodland beyond. The master king size bedroom is both spacious and comfortable with handmade fitments which provide plenty of hanging space complemented by a solid wood bed and a superb en-suite shower room with Villeroy and Boch fittings of shower cubicle, hand basin and wc.

Along the corridor is an equally comfortable twin room with direct access to the house bathroom, again, Villeroy and Boch with a shower over the bath, hand basin and wc.

There is a private car parking space for one car within the level parking area and further visitor's spaces are available.

As well as enjoying Deer Wood's private outside seating areas, guests are afforded full access to Applethwaite Hall's beautifully manicured lawns, home to a host of wildlife including a family of deer, squirrels and a variety of native birds.

Take a low level hike from Deer Wood to the top of Orrest Head or Post Knott to experience the stunning views of majestic Windermere and her surrounding fell range.

Water sports are widely available of course, but for a different activity, try a guided open water swim or experience the thrill of paddle boarding, great fun for all ages.

And what better way to round off a prefect day in the Lakes than by enjoy an early evening cruise on England's largest Lake and watching the sun set behind the breath taking Langdale Valley. Location Deer Wood at Applethwaite takes an enviable location; easily reached by car or by train and perfectly placed to explore Windermere village, Bowness and the delights of Lake Windermere without even having to use a car. Windermere village is a lovely place to make yourself at home, with lazy cafes for breakfast, plenty of shops for stocking up the kitchen, traditional Lake District pubs and several restaurants to choose from.

A number of superb walks begin nearby, including the easy ascent of Orrest Head which promises spectacular views to Lake Windermere from the top. Walk or drive a couple of miles down the road and you'll reach bustling Bowness, a popular Lake District holiday destination offering sophisticated shopping, a range of restaurants and even a lively nightlife - from the cosy 'Hole int Wall' traditional pub to the trendy Bodegas & Sol tapas bar.

From Bowness Bay, you can catch a Windermere Lake Cruise to Ambleside or Lakeside - what a way to explore without driving! For touring by car, you'll find Windermere a great place to start.

A famously scenic stretch of the A591 leads to Ambleside, Rydal Water and historic Grasmere.

Branch off into the Troutbeck Valley and take one of the most breathtaking scenic drives in the Lake District - over Kirkstone Pass to Ullswater with a stop at the acclaimed Queen's Head for lunch.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
