Kirkbride 6.1 miles.

Cherry Croft is a superb, detached cottage located near Bowness-on-Solway near Wigton and Carlisle, on the edge of the Solway Coast.

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing location with stunning, uninterrupted views stretching across the estuary to the Solway Firth and Scotland beyond, this cottage makes an ideal base for families and couples to enjoy this little-known corner of Cumbria.

There is an open plan living area, beautifully furnished and equipped leading to a conservatory/dining room, perfect to sit and enjoy the view and a lovely space for evening dining.

The cottage has two bedrooms, the master bedroom has a super king bed which can be unzipped to make two single beds, the second bedroom has a king-size bed with and ensuite shower room.

The main wet room is spacious and finished to a very high standard.

There is a large grassed garden to the front and a patio area and garden at the rear which is a real sun trap in the Summer.

The dramatic scenery is brought inside with large windows looking across the Solway Bay to the Scottish coast.

The cottage is situated on the coastal road, just yards from the salt marshes and the shore where in season you may observe the wonderful array of our coastal birds and wildlife.

From the kitchen and double bedroom there are views across to the RSPB Campfield Marsh site which has lovely boarded walks across Bowness Moss and a small visitor centre.

Cherry Croft is roughly a mile from the village of Bowness on Solway; the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail starts in the village, in the Summer regular walkers walk the wall; Cherry cottage would make a perfect start or end to this journey.

Bowness village has a very friendly pub and Bistro and a small café, offering great hospitality and good food.

The Bistro also offers a delivery takeaway menu; a rare treat in this rural location.

The Solway coast is an area is of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a National Heritage Site, ideal for walking and cycling, Hadrian's cycleway and the coastal cycleway go right past the cottage.

Bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy the local nature reserves with both Dumburgh Moss and the South Solway Mosses close by, and positioned right on the edge of the estuary at this Bowness-on-Solway cottage, you are already in a renowned World Ramsar site for marine birds.

Carlisle border city is steeped in history, you can explore the Castle, Cathedral and Tullie House (the local museum).

It is a short journey into Scotland to explore the Scottish Borders and a scenic drive to Keswick in the heart of the Lake District.

Cherry Cottage sits in beautiful Cumbrian location and is truly one of Britain's hidden gems.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

About the location

BOWNESS-ON-SOLWAY

Wigton 10 miles; Carlisle 13 miles.

The village of Bowness-on-Solway lies within the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to the west of the city of Carlisle. The village has a pub and a tea room and Hadrian’s Wall stretches from the village to Wallsend near Newcastle for some 73 miles, with the walk being defined as a ‘National Trail’. The surrounding area is rich in bird life visiting the sand dunes, salt marsh, shingle beds, and peat mosses, and there are many viewpoints and lay-bys, perfect for spotting the waders: oystercatchers, curlew, golden and grey plover, lapwing, knot, dunlin, bar-tailed and black-tailed godwit, redshank, and turnstone. In 1869 a rail line, the Solway Junction Railway, was opened between Bowness and Annan in Scotland, connecting to the Maryport and Carlisle railway. The 1 mile and 176 yard long iron girder viaduct across the water was damaged by an ice build-up in 1875, and again in 1881. It was repaired and continued as a passenger train until 1914 when it became a freight train until 1921, before finally being demolished in 1934. Nearby, the market town of Wigton and the city of Carlisle are popular centres for shopping, pubs and restaurants. Wigton also has a weekly market taking place every Friday and also boasts a theatre. The Victorian seaside resort of Silloth is 16 miles away, whilst Keswick and the heart of the Lake District are reached in 40 minutes' by car. A wonderful base for exploring Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.
