“We have to admit that part of the initial appeal of this cottage was the great price.”

However, on arrival the farm cottage far exceeded our expectations. The downstairs kitchen diner is spacious, well fitted and has plenty of good quality pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. The downstairs WC and washing machine is a bonus. Upstairs the lounge area is comfortable, the TV having the full Freeview channel list as well as streaming. The bedroom is spacious and the large double comfortable with good quality bedding. The bathroom has everything you need with a powerful hot shower. The farm is a little isolated from shops so having your own transport is useful, but the bus route between Maryport and Carlisle is only about a 20 minute walk away with busses in either direction every 30 minutes. There was a lovely welcome pack which included some fresh farm eggs, homemade cake and jam. Owners Rick and Fiona were there if you needed them but otherwise left you in your own space which was perfect for us. We were delighted with our three week stay here and will stay again when in this area. We have stayed in approx. 40 cottages over the last couple of years and this is one of the best. Highly recommended. Note that the signs for the farm are indistinct and partially obscured even though there are two of them so stay on the lookout. It shares an access track with Goose Green farm.

Nestled in the tiny picturesque village of Crookdake, only a few miles from the fells and lakes, is this superb cottage, Bramblewood Cottage. An ideal base to explore the Western Lake District and all the beautiful Cumbrian Fells have to offer.

The lovely towns of Keswick and Cockermouth are only a short drive away.

Set over two floors and sleeping up to two guests, Bramblewood Cottage is a spacious, yet cosy cottage.

It benefits from an enclosed garden with countryside views and easy access to the Solway Coast. This cottage is set in the owner’s 2 acre garden, surrounded by trees and fields.

This idyllic location is quiet and unspoilt, with stunning views of the surrounding fields and trees.

The cottage is set in an old orchard with stunning blossom and an abundance of apples, plums, cherries and pears. In the late winter and spring, a carpet of snowdrops and spring flowers light up the grass surrounding the cottage. Free range chickens wander past the cottage and free range eggs are left as a welcome gift when the hens are laying.

At certain points of the year, Lambs and calves can be seen in the surrounding fields. A wealth of wildlife can be enjoyed including a range of gardens birds, local moorhens, rabbits, hares, hedgehogs and if you’re very lucky, a red squirrel!.

Parking next to the property is available for two cars. The kitchen/ diner is light and spacious, with ample cupboard space.

There is an excellent double Range-master gas cooker to use, which alongside the smoothie maker, slow cooker and well-equipped dishes and utensils make this a foodie’s dream! Completing the ground floor is a handy cloakroom and small laundry room with washing machine, airer and iron/ironing board. Climb the stairs to the first floor, where you will find a generous sitting room, equipped with comfy chairs and sofas and a large TV.

The mini library gives you a generous selection of books which guests can take home in exchange for a book they have loved to read!

Games and jigsaw puzzles can also be enjoyed. The king size bed has an excellent sprung mattress with inbuilt memory foam topper.

Curtains have black out linings, helping aid a good night’s sleep.

This secluded location will get you into the fresh air, away from traffic and light pollution into the beautiful quiet countryside.

About the location

BASSENTHWAITE

Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles.

An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), Lake District Wildlife Park, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country.
