    “House was a top find.”

I stay in the lakes 2 or 3 times a year, always try and pick a different place to see as much as I can. The school easily in the top handful overall. House easily accommodated 10 people and didn't ever feel like people were under each other's feet. The local pub is excellent which is a bonus, not always a given (looking at you portinscale)... the fact that the local walk ends literally at your back door is the cherry on the cake and immensely satisfying. Have already recommended to friends and the (constructive criticism) lack of dog friendliness is the only reason it hasn't been booked up already by one of them. 5/5

The property

The former School is a Grade II listed property built in 1835 from local stone and slate.

It was used as the village school until the early 1960s when it was changed to a private dwelling with dual use as the village post office - there is still a post box at the end of the drive.

The School was completely transformed in 2006 into a luxury, architect designed home. The property is situated north east of the church in the small village of Mungrisdale in the Lake District National Park.

Raven Crags rises behind the house with outstanding views over the North Lakes area.

Guests have direct access on to the fell to the rear and there is a good sized south-west facing enclosed front garden.

Those of you who love walking in the high fells will take great delight in the hills around with paths to the summits of Skiddaw, Blencathra and the Caldbeck Fells starting from the door. The Mill Inn at Mungrisdale is famous for its bar food and there are other excellent country pubs in the area, especially at Caldbeck and Threlkeld.

There is shopping, live theatre and golf at Keswick, Cruises on both Derwentwater and Ullswater lakes will complete your holiday in this beautiful property. Accommodation: From the garage walk around the side of the house to the fell at the back where you will find the entrance into a hallway where there is room to hang coats and leave shoes and boots.

Up a couple of steps on to the main level where you will find the large double-height sitting/dining room with beautiful views out over Mungrisdale through the large fan-shaped windows, an impressive fireplace with woodburner, TV (basic sky package) and free Wi-Fi.

The kitchen leads off from the dining area with cream shaker style units and granite worktops, breakfast bar and large range cooker.

On this level is also a small twin room with views to the rear.

(This bedroom has sole use of the shower room down one flight of stairs which also acts as the main cloakroom.) Downstairs there are two bedrooms - one twin with en-suite (shower, wc and basin) and a double with king-size bed and sliding patio doors out to the garden and en-suite bathroom (bath, separate shower cubicle, basin and wc).

There is a large open plan lounge area with sliding patio doors out to the garden and a second kitchen with dining table.

There is a separate laundry and utility room.

This floor can be used as a separate 'apartment'. On the top floor are two spacious master bedrooms, both of which have glass gallery windows enabling you to look out over the lounge area below.

Both bedrooms have king-size beds, comfortable seating and en-suite bathrooms (bath with shower over, basin and wc). The whole interior is very comfortable and spacious and has been professionally styled with designer fabrics and furnishings, oak flooring in the main living areas, carpeting in the bedrooms and tiling to bathrooms.

Double glazing and oil central (underfloor) heating and hot water. Outside: Good sized south-west facing landscaped garden with flower beds and shrubs, and terrace with garden seating and lovely fell views.

Double garage and parking in the drive for three or four cars.

Nearest pub The Mill Inn at Mungrisdale less than a mile.

Keswick approx 9 miles or 15 mins drive.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
